"He kicks my wife and separates her hands."
Comedian Raunaq Rajani has alleged that his wife suffered a fractured rib after a police officer kicked her during a protest.
The incident allegedly took place on July 22, 2026, at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park during a demonstration held in solidarity with student protesters.
The protest was part of the Cockroach Janata Party-led movement demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The demonstrations were centred on widespread concerns over the alleged NEET paper leak and serious examination irregularities across India.
Rajani shared multiple videos on social media purporting to show the moments leading up to and following the alleged assault.
He claimed the footage also captures what took place inside the police vehicle after both he and his wife were detained.
According to Rajani, the incident began after police detained a young protester at the Shivaji Park demonstration on that day.
He and his wife began questioning the officers and filming their actions when the situation escalated dramatically and quickly.
The comedian said: “So it starts with this kid getting detained, and both of us were telling the cops that they do not have the right to do so.
“Now, he’s trying to get to me.
“While we are out here filming the cops doing this shameful illegal activity, keep an eye on the man in khaki uniform coming towards me.
“So this is how he got me down.”
Rajani said he was trying to ensure his wife stayed safe amid the rapidly deteriorating and chaotic situation around them.
“I want to make sure my wife doesn’t get hurt. So, I’m asking her to hold my hand.
“Now, as you saw in the other video, once we were on the floor, the man in khaki entered.”
He then made his most serious and disturbing allegation, saying:
“And now, he kicks my wife and separates her hands. Watch it again, see his leg movement.”

He further claimed that another officer in a red shirt forcefully pushed his wife into the police vehicle with considerable brute force.
Rajani said the ordeal left him with a painful neck sprain while his wife complained of severe rib pain.
“My wife’s rib has been fractured because of the protests in Mumbai. It was fractured by a policeman.”
He revealed that the couple initially did not treat the injury as a serious matter in the days immediately following the protest.
They felt that many others at the demonstrations had suffered far worse at the hands of police.
The couple travelled to Delhi the following day and did not immediately seek medical attention for the persistent rib pain.
However, when his wife’s pain showed no signs of reducing, they finally decided to consult a doctor.
“The pain was not reducing. So we went to a doctor who said she should get an X-ray, and she has a fracture.
“Now, I have video footage to show you what exactly happened.”
Raunaq Rajani has expressed his hope that the incident will be thoroughly and independently investigated by the relevant authorities going forward.
