India concluded its weightlifting campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games with eight medals after Lovepreet Singh secured silver in the men’s +110kg category.
Competing on the final day at the SEC Armadillo, the 28-year-old produced a combined lift of 388kg, made up of a 176kg snatch and a 212kg clean and jerk.
It marked Singh’s second Commonwealth Games medal after claiming bronze in the 109kg category at Birmingham 2022.
Singh narrowly missed out on gold by just one kilogram.
David Liti claimed the title with a Commonwealth Games record total of 389kg, lifting 166kg in the snatch and 223kg in the clean and jerk.
Lovepreet looked set for victory after dominating the snatch competition.
He opened with 168kg before improving to 173kg and then setting a new Commonwealth Games snatch record with 176kg. The lift gave him a commanding 10kg advantage heading into the clean and jerk.
However, Liti responded with successful lifts of 207kg and 223kg to overturn the deficit.
Lovepreet Singh completed lifts of 205kg and 212kg but was unable to lift 217kg with his final attempt, leaving him one kilogramme short of the gold medal.
Andrew Griffiths claimed bronze with a total of 356kg.
Earlier in the day, Martina Devi Maibam finished fifth in the women’s +86kg category after recording a combined lift of 245kg.
Maibam endured a difficult start, failing her opening two snatch attempts at 103kg. She kept her competition alive by successfully lifting 105kg with her final attempt.
She then cleared 140kg with her opening clean and jerk lift but failed at 144kg and 146kg.
A successful final lift of 146kg would have earned her the bronze medal.
Emily Campbell won gold with a Commonwealth Games record total of 278kg, while Siti Aqilah Farhana Draman took silver with 253kg. Etta Mae Love completed the podium with a total of 250kg.
Maibam was one of three Indian weightlifters to miss out on a medal in Glasgow, alongside Nirupama Devi and Sanjana, who failed to register a successful snatch attempt in the women’s 77kg competition on Wednesday.
India finished the Glasgow 2026 weightlifting competition with eight medals in total, comprising one gold, six silver and one bronze.
Mirabai Chanu claimed India’s only gold medal.
The other silver medals came through Harjinder Kaur, Valluri Ajaya Babu, Rishikanta Singh, Raja Muthupandi and Gyaneshwari Yadav, while Bindyarani Devi secured the bronze medal.
