The Comedy Lab returns to Find South Asian Talent

Brown Sauce has announced the return of The Comedy Lab, giving aspiring South Asian comedians the chance to develop their stand-up skills and perform alongside a headline act.

The initiative, delivered in partnership with Tara Theatre, will return for its third edition on October 17, 2026, following the success of its previous two events.

The Comedy Lab aims to discover, mentor and showcase emerging South Asian comedy talent through a free one-day workshop and a live ticketed showcase in London.

Participants will receive guidance from established comedians and industry mentors, helping them refine their material, develop their own comedic voice and build confidence on stage.

The workshop will conclude with each participant performing a five-minute stand-up set alongside an acclaimed comedy headliner. Previous editions have featured Ahir Shah and Nish Kumar as mentors and showcase headliners.

Established in 2021, Brown Sauce is a monthly South Asian comedy night in Central London.

It has become a platform for established and emerging comedians, with past performers including Eshaan Akbar, Shabaz Ali, Nish Kumar, Mawaan Rizwan, Sindhu Vee, Shazia Mirza, Atsuko Okatsuka, Ria Lina, Kiran Deol, Bilal Zafar, Fatiha El-Ghorri and Joshua Bethania.

The comedy night has also raised thousands of pounds for charitable causes and has collaborated with cultural organisations, including a sold-out partnership with Dishoom and Theatre Royal Stratford East during the venue’s South Asian Summer festival.

Tara Theatre, the UK’s longest-running global majority-led theatre company, has supported generations of South Asian performers, writers, directors, musicians and choreographers.

As it approaches its 50th anniversary in 2027, the theatre continues to produce politically driven work while championing new creative voices through a South Asian perspective.

Applications for The Comedy Lab are now open, with limited places available.

Applicants must be from a South Asian background and have between zero and one year of experience performing comedy.

The deadline to apply is August 31, 2026. Successful applicants will be notified during the week beginning September 14, before taking part in the workshop and showcase on October 17.

The headline comedian for the showcase will be announced at a later date, with tickets available through Tara Theatre once details are confirmed.
