Rooted in Punjabi musical tradition yet universally appealing, the track reflects her ability to balance depth with accessibility.
Discussing what drew her to the song, Kaur highlights its infectious energy and poetic charm.
She said: “This song is a complete feel-good experience, with a very appealing, melodious tune and Kuljit ji’s music arrangements that give it a grand feel.
“I would like to mention how rich and expressive the poetry is, which adds depth, while still keeping the mood light and happy.
“I feel it is the kind of track that makes you smile, groove, and enjoy being in love.”
Her perspective underscores the enduring appeal of Punjabi folk-inspired compositions, where melody and storytelling intertwine seamlessly.
The track’s grandeur, shaped by Kuljit Bhamra’s arrangements, enhances its emotional resonance while preserving its joyful essence.
Through ‘Jind Mahiya’, Kaur delivers a performance that celebrates romance, rhythm, and cultural heritage without sacrificing modern appeal.
The Timeless Power of Tradition

Priti Kaur’s artistic sensibilities are deeply rooted in classical music, particularly Raag Bhairavi. Revered for its versatility and emotional depth, Bhairavi has long served as a bridge between classical compositions and Punjabi folk traditions.
For Kaur, its expressive range makes it a profound source of inspiration:
“I have always been very attracted to this particular raag and I feel it carries an incredible emotional depth.
“It has a very soulful, devotional mood, with a sense of calmness and reflection within it. At the same time, it expresses romance and longing so beautifully.”
Her admiration reflects Bhairavi’s enduring significance across musical genres. Its presence in traditional Punjabi forms highlights its adaptability and timeless relevance.
She added: “I would also like to mention how much Bhairavi is there in our very rich folk tunes, for example here, tappé, boliyan, and many popular songs like ‘Kala Doriya’, ‘Suhe Ve Cheere Waliya’.
“I feel this fits into every category, folk, classical, and modern music, effortlessly, without losing its identity in Raag Bhairavi.”
Priti Kaur’s appreciation for poetic heritage further illustrates her commitment to preserving South Asian cultural traditions.
Referencing the work of the revered Sufi poet Baba Bulleh Shah, she shares lines that reflect celebration and joy, dedicating them to Kuldip Bhamra’s 2020 album Essence of Raga Tala.
“Come, let’s celebrate together. I am blessed like a king. My mother-in-law, I will not celebrate alone. Come, pour me sweet tea, sweet sugar for me… Come, show me how to dance.”
Through Bhairavi, Priti Kaur demonstrates how classical foundations continue to shape contemporary interpretations, preserving authenticity while embracing evolution.
Collaboration and Inspiration

The project offered her the opportunity to explore a wide emotional range while refining her vocal artistry under the guidance of legendary composer and producer Kuljit Bhamra.

“The recording process never felt stressful; instead, it was inspiring and so much fun.
“He has this rare ability to bring out aspects of my voice that I did not know existed.”
Reflecting on the experience, Kaur emphasises how the process deepened her understanding of her own capabilities as a performer.
She added: “So, during the creation process, I discovered new strengths, new emotions, and a deeper understanding of myself as an artist.”
Her artistic journey has also been shaped by legendary Punjabi voices, most notably Surinder Kaur, widely known as the Nightingale of Punjab.
She said: “There are many singers who have inspired me, but I would like to particularly mention the Nightingale of Punjab, Surinder Kaur ji.
“To me, Surinder Kaur ji is the ultimate role model in Punjabi music. She is not just a singer; she is the voice of Punjab’s soul.
“She sang every folk song and every melody filled with longing, with such honesty and clarity that it feels effortless yet deeply moving.
“As a singer, I always aspire to carry that same sincerity, grace, and cultural pride in my own music.”
This reverence for heritage informs her understanding of identity and artistry. For Kaur, being “Desi” is a celebration of roots, culture, and continuity.
She said: “For me, ‘Desi’ is all about pride in our roots – the music, the language, the energy, and the emotions that connect generations.
“Being Desi means celebrating where you come from while embracing it proudly in everything you do. Being Desi also means being part of the album DESI – The Soul of Punjab.”
