“Barbecuing is such a big and celebrated part of the British summer"
Britain’s summer barbecue culture is getting an Indian-inspired upgrade as Gymkhana Fine Foods launches a new Tandoor Experience range exclusively in Waitrose stores.
Launched on May 6, 2026, the collection aims to bring the bold flavours and smoky depth of Indian fire cooking into British homes.
Inspired by the techniques used at Gymkhana, the two Michelin-starred Mayfair restaurant, the range has been designed for barbecues as well as easy weeknight meals.
The launch reflects growing demand for restaurant-quality dining experiences at home, particularly products that balance convenience with strong flavour.
Gymkhana Fine Foods said the new range draws on more than 5,000 years of cooking over fire, with recipes inspired by traditional tandoor techniques.
While British barbecues often rely on familiar marinades and sauces, Indian cooking has long used smoke, spice and heat as the foundation of flavour.
Each product arrives pre-marinated and ready to cook. The company said the aim is to recreate restaurant-quality Indian dishes without complicated preparation.
The range includes a Tandoori Spatchcock Chicken (£15.95), made with British chicken marinated in smoky tandoori spices, Kashmiri chilli, ginger and yoghurt. It is served with green chutney.
Chicken Tikka Thighs (£9.95) feature the same tandoori marinade and are designed for quick cooking on the grill or in the oven.
Seafood options include Green Tikka Salmon (£12.95), which uses Scottish salmon fillets marinated with green chilli, coriander, mint and warming spices.
The Green Tikka Chicken Breasts (£12.95) combine coriander, mint, spinach and yoghurt in a fresh green tikka marinade.
Gymkhana Fine Foods said the products are intended to work equally well for relaxed outdoor gatherings and simple dinners at home.
Gulrez Arora, co-founder of Gymkhana Fine Foods, said:
“Barbecuing is such a big and celebrated part of the British summer, and so we wanted to bring much-loved Indian flavours to the grill with the help of the tandoor.
“Cooking over fire is something that sits at the heart of Indian cuisine, as well as on our menus and recipes at Gymkhana, and the tandoor adds a really special depth of flavour through smoke, spice and careful preparation.
“This exciting new range is about sharing a little of that with people at home.”
“Everything is prepared so it’s simple to cook, but still delivers something bold and full of character.
“It’s an easy way to try something new on the barbecue, or bring a different kind of elevated flavour to the table.”
Laura Tudor, Branded Innovation Manager at Waitrose, added:
“We are delighted to be the exclusive home of Gymkhana Fine Foods’ Tandoor Experience range, bringing an iconic London dining experience into home kitchens for the first time.
“This collection of pre-marinated centrepieces taps into the growing demand for restaurant-quality food at home, offering our food lovers an elevated Indian dining experience inspired by Gymkhana’s Michelin-starred restaurants.
“It’s about delivering maximum flavour with minimum hassle, allowing anyone to serve up a world-class tandoor feast on their own table.”
