she was having an affair with a 20-year-old student
An Indian wife has been arrested for allegedly murdering her husband with the help of her lover.
The shocking incident happened in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.
Police have also arrested the woman’s lover and one of his friends.
The woman has been identified as Basanti Rawat.
The matter initially came to light on September 6, 2021, when police discovered a body in a canal.
Police took the body in for examination and it was identified as Parikshit Rawat. An investigation was subsequently launched.
During the investigation, police examined call details and found that his wife Basanti had changed SIM cards several times.
Analysis also found that Basanti regularly spoke to someone for long periods of time, drawing the suspicion of the police.
In October 2021, Police took Basanti in for questioning and she eventually admitted to killing her husband.
The Indian wife explained that she was having an affair with a 20-year-old student named Manish. The illicit relationship had been going on for months.
It is unclear whether or not Parikshit knew about his wife’s affair.
She told officers that Parikshit was an alcoholic and would drink on a daily basis. After falling asleep, Basanti would speak to and visit her lover.
However, things allegedly escalated when Parikshit started beating Basanti. This caused Basanti to become more distant from her husband.
But this only made things worse as Parikshit’s violent assaults allegedly became more severe.
The domestic violence eventually led to Basanti and Manish coming up with a plan to kill Parikshit.
A week before the murder, Basanti left her home and moved in with her lover.
On the night of September 4, an inebriated Parikshit was strangled to death by Basanti. The next day, Manish and a friend dumped the body in a canal.
Police discovered that Basanti switched phone numbers three days before the killing in a bid to deter the investigation that would follow.
Officers recovered 10 SIM cards, out of which, four were brand new and had recently become active.
One of the old SIM cards had not been deactivated, meaning that officers were aware of the old phone number.
Gwailor Superintendent of Police Amit Sanghi said:
“Following an investigation, we detained the woman’s lover Manish Rawat, who confessed to having committed the crime along with the woman.”
On October 26, 2021, Basanti, Manish and the friend appeared in court. All three were sent to prison.
