Police identified the victim as 25-year-old Deepa Gurjar. On November 7, 2019, Dr Seema Gupta allegedly set Deepa’s house on fire and locked it from the outside.
Deepa and her son were inside. As the fire became more serious, her brother tried to save them but ended up getting injured.
The accused’s husband, Dr Sudeep Gupta and his mother have also been arrested while the investigation continues.
According to the police, Deepa worked at Dr Gupta’s clinic as a receptionist in 2017. During that time, she got to know Sudeep and the two had an affair.
However, Seema found out about her husband’s illicit relationship and immediately fired Deepa.
Despite this, Sudeep and Deepa continued their affair. The doctor even moved his lover and her son into a villa he had purchased in 2015.
On November 1, 2019, the Indian doctor discovered that her husband continued to see his lover when Deepa opened a new spa centre.
She had handed out invitations for the grand opening of her new business and Seema saw that her husband had been invited.
As a result, she became enraged and decided to take action. She went with her mother-in-law Sulekha to the villa.
At around 4 pm on November 7, 2019, Seema and her mother-in-law went to the property in an attempt to intimidate Deepa and to convince her to stop her affair.
Seema, who had a bottle of lighter fluid, confronted her husband’s lover. They spoke, however, the conversation resulted in the doctor becoming furious.
She allegedly poured the liquid on the furniture, set it alight and ran out of the house, locking the outside latch.
Deepa and her son could not escape as the fire became more severe. Smoke had billowed out and a crowd gathered, helplessly watching.
Meanwhile, Deepa’s 21-year-old brother Anuj arrived at the house and tried to enter in order to help his sister and nephew.
However, he ended up getting burnt. Deepa and her son subsequently died.
The fire brigade later arrived and managed to extinguish the fire. Upon entering, they discovered the victim’s bodies and alerted the police.
Police officers arrived at the scene and investigated, identifying all those involved but no case was registered.
They ended up arresting Sudeep, Seema and Sulekha while they continued to find out what happened.
