"See you soon in Antarctica."
Global icon Priyanka Chopra Jonas recently shared a massive update regarding the filming of her highly anticipated movie Varanasi.
The upcoming film is set to be shot in Antarctica following a production schedule in the vast African grasslands.
This frozen continent is rarely used for commercial cinema, with fewer than 10 movies ever filmed there.
Filmmakers usually avoid the region due to extreme weather conditions and the strict environmental regulations of the Antarctic Treaty.
High production costs and immense logistical challenges make it a very difficult destination for any major film crews.
This project will likely be the first Indian mainstream film to ever shoot on the remote and icy continent.
Priyanka revealed this news while responding to a social media post by her talented co-star, Mahesh Babu.
Mahesh Babu had complimented the actress for her stellar performance in her latest released project titled The Bluff.
She thanked him warmly by writing: “Thank you, my friend. See you soon in Antarctica.”
During a recent interview for The Bluff, she was asked several questions about the progress of the film Varanasi.
The movie is directed by SS Rajamouli, who is known for global hits like RRR and the Baahubali series.
She stated: “This movie is going to be one of India’s biggest ambitions. It’s positioned in an incredible way; we travel through time, we travel the world.
“It is an adventure. It is really cool. I am very excited for the world to see it.”
The production team has already been shooting for over fourteen months, with six months of work still left.
The actress noted that the director takes his time to ensure every detail of the massive project is absolutely perfect.
“He takes his time. From whatever little I am allowed to see, I think it is going to be very cool and defining for Indian cinema.”
She has been cast in the leading role of a character named Mandakini for this drama.
Her first look poster features her wearing a bright yellow saree while holding a pistol in a very striking pose.
The ambitious project also stars Mahesh Babu as Rudhra and Prithviraj Sukumaran, who will be portraying the character Kumbha.
Fans can expect the grand release of this cinematic experience on the seventh day of April in the year 2027.
