Patiala Man killed Fiancee & First Wife with Nitrogen Gas

Indian police have arrested a man from Patiala, Punjab after he allegedly killed his fiancee using nitrogen gas.

It is believed that Navninderpreet Singh committed the murder just a week before their wedding. He is also accused of murdering his first wife in a similar fashion.

The matter came to light after police exhumed the body of 28-year-old Chupinder Kaur from Singh’s house.

On October 11, 2021, the victim had arrived in Patiala from Bathinda for wedding shopping.

Chupinder stayed with the accused at his home.

However, a week before the wedding, Singh allegedly persuaded his fiancee to inhale nitrogen gas. He told her that the cylinder contained oxygen and that inhaling it would make “her face sparkle”.

This resulted in her death.

Singh then allegedly buried her in his bedroom where he had already dug a pit under his bed.

Afterwards, Singh told Chupinder’s family that she left his house in anger at around midnight on October 14, 2021.

Dr RK Singal, head of Internal Medicine at BLK Super Specialty Hospital in Delhi said that “depending on the dosage of nitrogen ingested, it can cause full-body paralysis or sudden death”.

He added: “It is tolerated by the human body at regular doses and under professional supervision, and it is not fatal.

“However, because the body is deprived of oxygen when taken in excess, it can definitely knock down both our nervous and respiratory systems.”

After police discovered the victim’s body, Singh was arrested.

During questioning, police found out about the murder of his first wife.

Singh had met the woman in 2009 when she travelled to Patiala for an exam. The pair got married in 2018.

Senior Superintendent of Police HS Bhullar said:

“The accused had earlier married another woman, Sukhdeep Kaur of Bishanpura village of Sunam in Sangrur district in February 2018.

“Sukhdeep was triple MA qualified.

“On September 19 midnight this year, she was allegedly killed by the accused while she was pregnant.”

“Navinderpreet somehow managed to convince Sukhdeep’s parents that she had died due to a heart attack following which she was cremated.”

According to officers, Singh killed Sukhdeep using nitrogen gas.

The police said Singh had married another woman named Lakhwinder Kaur in October 2018. In March 2020, he was engaged to Chupinder, with the marriage scheduled for October 20, 2021.

SSP Bhullar added: “The accused said he killed both women as he was feeling trapped.

“He has been remanded in police custody for six days and further investigation is underway.”
