"This is the complete film, without any cuts."

Satluj, the Honey Trehan-directed drama, began streaming globally on ZEE5 Global on July 3, 2026.

The film is inspired by the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra.

It arrived on the streaming platform in full and without any cuts whatsoever.

This release comes three years after the film first ran into serious trouble with censors.

India’s censor board had previously blocked the film’s theatrical release in the country.

Produced by RSVP and MacGuffin Pictures, the social drama is led by Diljit Dosanjh.

The cast also includes Arjun Rampal, Kanwaljit Singh, Suvinder Vicky and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan.

The film traces Khalra’s decades-long pursuit of justice for disappeared persons meticulously.

More than 25,000 people disappeared during Punjab’s insurgency-era crackdowns, according to historical records.

The narrative explores the personal cost of fighting against a system determined to suppress truth.

The project has carried three different names on its complicated way to the final release.

It was originally titled Ghallughara, a historic term for the massacres of Sikhs.

RSVP applied for certification from India’s censor board in late 2022.

The six-month certification process ended with the film cleared for 21 significant cuts mandated.

The censor board also mandated a title change to Punjab ’95 as a requirement.

RSVP appealed that controversial ruling in the Bombay High Court thereafter.

Around the same time, the film was withdrawn from its planned gala premiere.

It was supposed to premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival.

A source told the media that political factors were involved in that withdrawal decision.

Trehan stated to media: “We could not get the previous title of the film. The title is now Satluj.

“This is the complete film, without any cuts or compromises, in its original form as we always intended.

“It wouldn’t have been possible without Diljit paji and our producers and their will to stand for its integrity.

“As both Diljit paji and I had previously said, we would not endorse a compromised version of the film.”

Diljit Dosanjh, who plays Khalra in the film, shared his own motivations for taking the role:

“Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra ji’s martyrdom and his contribution to humanity were the primary reasons I chose to be a part of this film.

“I felt a strong sense of responsibility towards the film and was committed to portraying such an inspiring character with truth, honesty, and utmost respect.”

The film’s journey represents a significant struggle against censorship in Indian cinema overall.

The streaming release on ZEE5 Global ensures accessibility to audiences across multiple continents.
