"Anjali Arora as Mata Sita, seriously?"
Content creator Anjali Arora has been cast as Goddess Sita in the upcoming film Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha – Shri Ram Ki.
The makers unveiled the film’s poster and teaser, but the promotional material was quickly met with widespread criticism across social media.
The backlash has largely centred on the casting of Arora in the iconic and deeply revered role of Goddess Sita.
Several users also questioned the film’s visual effects, with some drawing unfavourable comparisons to the much-criticised 2023 release Adipurush.
One comment read: “I’m sorry but wrong casting for Seeta Mata character.”
Another user wrote: “Maa Sita ke role mein Surpanakha.”
One took a jab by writing: “Respect for Adipurush.”
A separate comment read: “Kacha Badam doing Mata Sita Role.”
Another user dismissed the film entirely, calling it a “3-hour Instagram reel” in a pointed critique of its overall tone and presentation.
Some reactions were significantly harsher, with one user writing: “Ban this movie. How can she do Mata Sita character?”
A more detailed criticism read: “Ramayana is not some ordinary story that anyone can pick up and make anything in the name of a film.
“They’ve turned the Ramayana into a joke.”
“Anjali Arora as Mata Sita, seriously?”
Beyond the casting controversy, several viewers also took issue with the film’s visual effects and overall presentation of the sacred epic.
One user described the VFX as a “shame” while others criticised the film’s handling of the Ramayana‘s music and cinematic treatment.
Anjali Arora rose to widespread public recognition following the viral ‘Kacha Badam’ trend that spread across social media platforms in recent years.
Her transition from viral content creator to a film actress has proven to be one of the most polarising casting decisions recently.
The film also stars Dev Sharma as Lord Ram, with the first poster placing both characters at the very centre of its visual identity.
The teaser offers glimpses of key and familiar moments from the Ramayana, including the wedding of Ram and Sita and their exile from Ayodhya.
It also features Sita’s abduction and the preparations for the construction of the Ram Setu as part of its dramatic visual storytelling.
Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha – Shri Ram Ki is directed by Abhishek Singh and has been shot in both Hindi and Chhattisgarhi languages.
The cast includes Dev Sharma, Anjali Arora, Sheel Verma, Rajniesh Duggal and Nirbhay Wadhwa in significant roles throughout the production.
The Abhishek Singh directorial is scheduled to release in cinemas on September 26, 2026, placing it in a significant and competitive theatrical window.
