"I don’t know who started the rumour."
Ali Sethi has responded to the claims that he has married New York-based painter Salman Toor.
On August 11, 2023, rumours circulated on social media that the Pakistani singer had tied the knot.
Reports suggested that Ali and Salman had a low-key wedding in New York, surrounded by close friends and family.
Many netizens soon started posting congratulatory messages, with one person writing:
“Congratulations to Ali Sethi on his wedding to Salman Toor! May they have so much happiness.”
However, the alleged marriage also led to condemnation as some users stated that same-sex marriage is illegal in Pakistan.
A user commented: “People are defending the sin for which Allah has destroyed an entire nation.
“Instead of calling them out, we are congratulating Ali Sethi and Salman Toor? At least have the guts to say wrong is wrong!”
Another angry person said: “Ali Sethi and Salman Toot both should be hanged publicly to set an example for generations to come.
“There’s no other way to stop this filth. Period.”
Others even began looking at Salman’s work and wondered if his artwork had actually been depicting Ali all this time.
The ‘Pasoori’ singer has now broken his silence on the matter.
Taking to his Instagram Stories, Ali Sethi refuted the marriage rumours, writing:
“I am not married. I don’t know who started the rumour.
“But maybe they should help market my new release.”
Ali also shared a link to his new EP Paniya, suggesting that the rumours could inadvertently promote his work.
Ali’s ‘Pasoori’ attracted attention when the makers of Satyaprem Ki Katha released a new version of the song for the film, performed by Arijit Singh and Tulsi Kumar.
At the time, Shae Gill said: “I actually found out about the remake through you guys but also, I wanted to talk about all of the hate that people have been sending towards the new song.
“I understand that you all love the original Pasoori so much and I am so grateful for all the love. I can’t even begin to express how grateful I am but also at the same time I don’t want you to be sending hate to someone else.
“And if it’s something you don’t like at all then I would say don’t listen to it.
“Instead of sending hate, don’t listen to it because not liking something and talking about it in your home is still fine but if you are publicly humiliating and insulting someone then it’s not very nice, is it?”
