An Indian woman committed suicide after killing her three-year-old son at their home in the village of Jitpura Dhani, which is in the Charkhi Dadri district of Haryana.

It was reported that the murder-suicide took place on the night of Monday, January 6, 2020. The police were called the next morning.

It is believed that she hung her son before hanging herself from the ceiling fan.

The unnamed woman took her own life after her husband did not allow her to get a job.

The deceased’s father-in-law explained that the 23-year-old wanted to pursue a job within the state government but her husband of five years did not allow her.

He revealed that she had passed an exam for a clerical job and was offered a role. When she told her husband, he forced her to turn down the position.

When he refused, the woman decided to take drastic measures.

He said: “She had cleared the exam for a clerical job in the Haryana government, but my son did not allow her to join.”

The father-in-law went on to say that his son had discovered the two bodies and alerted the police. He added:

“We came to know about the matter on Monday night when my son saw the bodies of his wife and son hanging from a ceiling fan.”

Following his statement to police, a case was registered.

Badhra Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Anil Kumar confirmed that a probe has been initiated to look into the matter.

Police officers also spoke to the woman’s brother and an FIR was registered against the deceased under Sections 302 (murder) and 309 (attempt to commit suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

DSP Kumar added:

“We have recorded the statements of her family members. The woman did not leave any suicide note behind.”

The Indian woman lived in Charkhi Dadri but was originally from Bhiwani district. She got married in 2015 and the couple had a son.

Station House Officer at Badhra Police Station Telu Ram said:

“The woman had got married five years ago. Her husband is a farmer and belongs to a well-to-do family. The woman hailed from Mitathal in Bhiwani district.”

Being denied a pathway to success has resulted in numerous suicide cases.

In one incident, a 17-year-old girl from Maharashtra wanted to pursue further studies and go on to get a good job. However, she was unable to as her father could not afford to pay for her studies.

The distraught teenager ended up taking her own life by consuming pesticide.
