Three members of an Indian mob have been arrested for allegedly beating a man.

On Sunday, August 18, 2019, police stated that the man, identified as Bunty Singh Rajput, was assaulted after he was accused of theft.

He was also accused by the mob of entering Dodiya Khadi village in Madhya Pradesh in order to meet some women.

Officers arrived at the scene to find the man bleeding. He was soon taken to a hospital for treatment. After recovering, Mr Rajput explained his ordeal and a case was registered.

Police Inspector Ram Gopal Verma said:

“The victim said that he was having tea at a stall when three men asked him to come with them.

“They then accused him of coming in the area with the intention of meeting some women, the victim denied their charges but they did not pay any heed to it and started beating him.”

Inspector Verma added that Mr Rajput had said in his statement that the three men picked a fight with him for no reason. The Indian mob also alleged that he was a thief.

The incident was filmed and it showed the victim surrounded by a group and covered in blood. Mr Rajput was in an out of consciousness as the group stood around him.

One person from the group then tied a rope around Mr Rajput to a small pole before the mob left him there.

Inspector Verma explained: “Police got information that a man named Bunty Singh Rajput was being beaten up by three people.

“We arrived on the spot and sent him to the hospital after rescuing him from the spot.

“Based on the victim’s statement we registered a case and have succeeded in arresting all three men.

“We have registered the case under Sections 342, 323 and other relevant sections.”

India Today reported that police are currently investigating the case to find out if there were any others involved in the attack.

This is not the first time where a mob in India has taken matters into their own hands after making accusations.

In July 2018, a woman was beaten to death after she was suspected of being a child kidnapper. The incident also happened in Madhya Pradesh.

The woman was targeted after rumours spread on WhatsApp which claimed that kidnappers were actively operating in the area and that she was part of it.

Villagers chased the woman and beat her to death with rods and sticks. They later dragged and dumped her body.

Around 14 people were arrested for their roles in the murder.
