The story is brought to life by an impressive cast
Bangladeshi director Proshoon Rahmaan has released Dear Satyajit, a tribute film now available on the OTT platform Chorki.
This was done to mark the centenary of legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray’s birth.
The film has already made waves at several international festivals, earning critical acclaim and awards.
As of May 2, 2025, Ray’s birth anniversary, the film is now streaming to the public.
The film offers a heartfelt cinematic homage to the South Asian film icon.
Ray, whose influence on global cinema is immeasurable, continues to inspire filmmakers across the world.
The film offers a unique narrative, following three filmmakers from different eras.
One of these filmmakers is Ray himself, represented symbolically.
The story is brought to life by an impressive cast, including the late Ahmed Rubel, who portrays veteran director Asif Mahmud.
It also includes Moutushi Biswas, who plays the young filmmaker Aparajita.
The cast also features Pankaj Majumdar, Saeed Babu, Sangeeta Chowdhury, Labonno Chowdhury, Ehsanul Haque, Nusrat Jahan Nodi, and Abir.
The film was shot in various iconic locations, including Ray’s ancestral home in Masua, Kishoreganj, and heritage sites in Old Dhaka.
Dear Satyajit offers a visual feast for cinephiles and admirers of Ray’s work.
Rahmaan was driven to create the film after realising that Bangladesh, unlike India, had not made a significant effort to mark Ray’s centenary.
This realisation spurred him to take the project into his own hands.
Proshoon Rahmaan’s Dear Satyajit was created as a broader tribute to the power of cinema, literature, and art in shaping human experiences.
Rahmaan explained:
“It’s a love letter to cinema, to literature, to art grounded in life. Any moment that celebrates art makes it relevant.”
The film is available to Chorki subscribers at no additional cost.
Faisal Rahman, Chorki’s head of Marketing and Business Development, shared that Dear Satyajit was released exclusively on the platform.
They used the Transactional Video on Demand (TVOD) model to ensure wider accessibility.
Through Dear Satyajit, Rahmaan aims to inspire young filmmakers, much like Ray’s work continues to inspire new generations.
The independently funded film serves as a poignant reminder of the lasting impact Ray’s work has had on both regional and global cinema.
