Gamers are getting ready for the release of EA FC 27 and that means the return of the popular game mode Ultimate Team.
It also means there will be a new batch of Icons and Heroes arriving, as well as Hall of FUT, a new Player Item type celebrating FUT community favourites.
While Heroes are players who made significant contributions to their clubs and countries, Icons are some of the best players in the history of football.
EA FC 27 will see 10 brand new Icons in the game.
As Icons, some will be gracing EA Sports’ flagship sports game for the first time while others are making a dramatic return just a few years after retiring.
With EA FC 27 releasing on September 25, 2026, we look at the new Icons in more detail.
Sergio Agüero
93:20. For Manchester City fans, those four digits need no explanation.
With the 2011/12 Premier League title seemingly slipping away, Sergio Agüero produced a moment that changed the club’s history. His stoppage-time strike against QPR secured City’s first league title in 44 years.
It was the perfect snapshot of Agüero at his best. Explosive acceleration, sharp movement and ruthless finishing made the Argentinian one of the Premier League’s defining forwards.
During his Manchester City career, Agüero became the club’s all-time leading scorer. He also helped deliver multiple league titles and domestic cups, becoming a central figure in the club’s rise.
His legacy extended beyond Manchester, too. Agüero was part of the Argentina squad that won the Copa América in 2021.
A career built on goals, trophies and unforgettable moments now earns Agüero his place as an Icon in EA FC 27.
Christine Sinclair
It’s Tokyo 2021, and Christine Sinclair, international football’s all-time leading scorer, is closing in on Olympic gold.
During the tournament, she made her landmark 300th appearance for Canada and scored her 187th international goal.
Sinclair became the beating heart of Canadian football. Her remarkable longevity made her one of the most influential forwards in the history of the women’s game.
She ended her international career as women’s football’s all-time leading scorer and the second-most capped player in international football history.
At club level, Sinclair became a Portland Thorns legend. She helped the team win NWSL Championships in 2013, 2017 and 2022.
Now, one of the sport’s greatest record-breakers joins the ranks as an Icon in EA FC 27.
Raphaël Varane
At the 2018 World Cup, Raphaël Varane rose highest against Uruguay, directing a glancing header into the net to open France’s 2-0 quarter-final victory.
It was another composed performance from a defender who rarely appeared hurried, even on football’s biggest stages.
Varane developed that calm authority during a decorated decade with Real Madrid.
He combined assured defending with elegant distribution, helping the Spanish giants win four UEFA Champions League titles and multiple domestic honours.
His international career brought further glory. Varane played every minute of France’s 2018 World Cup campaign, helping Les Bleus become world champions.
A defender defined by composure, elegance and elite-level success, Varane now joins the Icon ranks in EA FC 27.
Ellen White
Few players embodied England’s attacking spirit quite like Ellen White.
At UEFA Women’s Euro 2022, the striker was at the heart of the Lionesses’ historic campaign. She scored twice against Norway during an emphatic 8-0 victory.
White’s instinctive finishing was matched by intelligent movement and relentless energy. She led the line throughout the competition before England defeated Germany 2-1 in the final.
Her international career ended with another distinction. White retired as England women’s all-time leading scorer, having established herself among the country’s greatest forwards.
Her club career was equally decorated, with major honours won during spells at Arsenal and Manchester City.
Now, EA FC 27 honours White’s remarkable career by welcoming her to the Icon ranks.
Pepe
Portugal had waited years for a major international trophy. In 2016, Pepe helped ensure the wait was finally over.
The defender delivered a commanding Man of the Match performance as Portugal beat France 1-0 after extra time in the UEFA Euro 2016 final.
It was a fitting display from a player whose reputation was built on fierce competitiveness and uncompromising defending. Pepe brought that intensity to Real Madrid, becoming a cornerstone of one of Europe’s most formidable defences.
His time in Madrid produced three UEFA Champions League titles and multiple domestic honours.
Yet his influence was just as significant for Portugal, where his leadership and resilience helped deliver European glory.
A career defined by strength, determination and silverware now sees the Portuguese legend enter the Icon Class of ’27.
Formiga
For Formiga, longevity was about continuing to compete at the highest level.
At Beijing 2008, the Brazilian midfielder celebrated after firing her side level against Germany in the semi-final. It was another standout moment in an international career that would span 26 remarkable years.
Formiga represented Brazil at seven World Cups.
Her stamina, competitive fire and tireless work in midfield made her a constant presence for the national team.
She helped Brazil reach the 2007 final and claimed Olympic silver medals at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008.
More than her achievements, Formiga’s extraordinary longevity became a symbol of dedication. Her career inspired generations of players in Brazil and established a lasting legacy in women’s football.
Now, that legacy returns to the pitch as Formiga joins the Icon ranks in EA FC 27.
Tobin Heath
Tobin Heath was at her most expressive when the biggest moments demanded it.
In the 2015 World Cup final, she scored the fifth goal in the United States’ 5-2 victory over Japan. The result secured a third world title for the US and their first in 16 years.
Heath brought a rare combination of close control, fearless creativity and unpredictability to the pitch. Her ability to take on defenders one-on-one made her a constant threat throughout her international career.
She helped the United States reach the summit again in 2019, becoming a two-time World Cup winner. With Portland Thorns, she added two NWSL Championships to an already decorated career.
A player who could turn creativity into match-winning moments, Heath now joins the Icon ranks in EA FC 27.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge
Three touches. One acrobatic volleyed lob. A goal that would become part of Bundesliga folklore.
In October 1980, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge found himself surrounded by Bochum defenders inside the box. He juggled the ball three times before producing a spectacular finish that earned Goal of the Year honours.
That moment captured the qualities that defined Rummenigge’s career. He combined elegant movement and exceptional technique with the ruthless finishing of an elite forward.
At FC Bayern, Rummenigge became one of Europe’s defining attackers. He won two European Cups and helped secure consecutive Bundesliga titles in 1979/80 and 1980/81.
His individual brilliance was equally recognised. Rummenigge won the Ballon d’Or twice, while his international career brought UEFA Euro glory with West Germany in 1980.
Now, one of football’s most technically gifted forwards takes his place among the Icons in EA FC 27.
Hege Riise
It’s 2003, and Hege Riise is driving another attack for the Carolina Courage.
It’s a familiar sight from a midfielder who spent her career dictating games with intelligence, composure and authority.
Riise was instrumental in Norway’s golden era. She helped secure European glory in 1993 before inspiring the team to World Cup success two years later.
Her performances at the 1995 World Cup earned her the Golden Ball. It was recognition of a player whose vision and technical ability made her one of the defining midfielders of her generation.
Olympic gold followed in 2000, adding another major honour to an extraordinary international career.
Now, Riise’s legacy earns her a place in the Icon Class of ’27.
Yuki Nagasato
Yuki Nagasato made history in more ways than one.
In 2011, she helped Japan become the first Asian nation to win the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Years later, she broke new ground again by joining her hometown men’s team on loan.
Nagasato’s versatility made her a key part of Japan’s golden generation.
Her intelligent movement and tireless work rate allowed her to threaten defences from across the forward line.
Her club career took her around the world, with spells in Germany, England, the United States and Australia. With Turbine Potsdam, she won Frauen-Bundesliga titles and the UEFA Women’s Champions League in 2010.
From World Cup champion to trailblazer, Nagasato’s pioneering career earns her a place among the Icons in EA FC 27.
These new Icons will change the way you play Ultimate Team and along with the existing Icons, there will be more opportunities to create unique teams.
It will also provide more chances to use players you grew up watching.
Some will be better than others; therefore, they will be more expensive.
Ultimate Edition players will be able to get started on September 18, while the general release is September 25.
EA FC 27 is almost here, but expect further surprise announcements.
