“Bound not by blood, but by love.”
Jaya Ahsan is all set to return to theatres once again, with her upcoming film Dear Maa. The film is slated to release in Kolkata on July 18, 2025.
This marks her fourth film in just three months, a streak that highlights both her artistic momentum and cross-industry presence.
She shared the release date on July 17, unveiling the film’s official poster on social media.
Jaya wrote: “Dear Maa is coming July 18.”
The film carries the tagline: “Bound not by blood, but by love.”
Dear Maa is directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, best known for his work in layered family dramas.
The cast features Chandan Roy Sanyal opposite Jaya, with supporting performances by Saswata Chatterjee, Dhritiman Chatterjee, and Padmapriya Janakiraman.
The film is described as a story rooted in family dynamics, centred around a young daughter and her parents.
However, according to the director, it goes beyond conventional narratives.
Dear Maa also delves into tangled modern relationships and the emotional complexity that defines them.
This is Jaya’s second time working with Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, having previously worked together on the Hindi film Kadak Singh, which premiered on ZEE5.
In Dear Maa, Jaya Ahsan takes on the role of a mother.
In a previous interview, she called the part emotionally demanding, adding that it deals with inner conflict and unresolved emotions.
She described the storytelling as “very much Tonida’s style”, using the director’s nickname.
The film follows a string of diverse projects from the actor in recent months.
In May, she appeared in Jaya and Sharmin, directed by Piplu Khan.
Set during the Covid-19 lockdown, it explored the shifting bond between two women living under one roof.
During Eid, she featured in two sharply contrasting roles.
In Taandob, directed by Raihan Rafi, she portrayed a fierce investigative journalist chasing political truths.
In Utshob, a supernatural thriller by Tanim Noor, she played a spectral figure wrapped in mystery.
Each role has shown a different facet of her craft. From psychological tension to horror and emotional vulnerability, Jaya has crossed multiple genres with ease.
With Dear Maa, Jaya Ahsan is all set to explore familial love through a fresh lens.
As the release date nears, audiences in Kolkata and beyond await another layered performance from one of South Asia’s most versatile actors.
