Jaya Ahsan will return to the screen with Churni Ganguly in Ajo Ardhangini, the official sequel to the critically acclaimed film Ardhangini.
Kaushik Ganguly announced the new project, creating buzz among Bengali cinema fans.
The film is set to go on floors around June 15 or 16, 2025.
Alongside Jaya and Churni, Kaushik Sen will also be seen in his role from the original.
Meanwhile, Indrashish Roy joins the cast.
His addition is expected to add a new dynamic to the emotionally complex narrative.
Jaya confirmed her involvement via social media and was recently in Kolkata for a look test.
Her new look for the sequel has already been unveiled by ‘Anandabazar Patrika’, adding to the growing excitement surrounding the film.
Speaking about the project, Jaya said: “Ardhangini had a very mature storyline. It’s truly a joy to be part of its sequel.
“The audience embraced the previous film wholeheartedly. Now, our challenge is to deliver something even better.”
Ardhangini, released in June 2024, explored a sensitive emotional triangle involving a man, his wife, and his former spouse.
Jaya Ahsan played the role of the wife opposite Kaushik Sen. The film was lauded for its nuanced storytelling and powerful performances.
Jaya’s performance in Ardhangini previously earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the 2024 Cinemar Somabarton Awards.
The awards were hosted by the West Bengal Film Journalists’ Association.
She shared the category with Mamata Shankar (Palan), Ananya Sen (Dilkhush), and Anindita Bose (Aaro Ek Prithibi).
Meanwhile, Jaya is juggling multiple projects. She recently finished dubbing for her upcoming Eid-ul-Azha film Tandoob in Kolkata.
Post-production is also underway for her upcoming film Dear Maa.
With Kaushik Ganguly back at the helm and a fresh pairing of powerhouse performers, the audience is pretty excited to watch the sequel.
