Audiences in Bangladesh will soon have the opportunity to watch Jaya Ahsan in Fereshteh, a Bangladesh-Iran collaboration that has already been released internationally.

The film has also travelled to major film festivals across the world.

The long-delayed project is finally hitting local theatres on September 19, 2025, closing a wait of more than three years.

Originally, the release was planned for an earlier date, but distributors postponed it suddenly, leaving fans eager for confirmation.

Directed by Iranian filmmaker Morteza Atash Zamzam, Fereshteh paints an intimate portrait of lives that usually remain unseen on the fringes of society.

For Jaya Ahsan, her role was both demanding and deeply meaningful, since it brought her closer to stories rarely told onscreen.

Describing her commitment to the performance, she said: “I play one of those strong but forgotten characters from our underprivileged communities.”

The actress also noted that the encouragement of her team helped her overcome the obstacles of what she called a “tough shoot.”

International audiences were first introduced to the film at Iran’s Fajr International Film Festival, where it drew notable critical appreciation.

It then opened the Dhaka International Film Festival in 2024, before making another stop at the International Film Festival of India in Goa.

The project’s cross-cultural journey has helped it gain credibility abroad, and anticipation is now growing for its domestic reception.

Producer and actor Sumon Faruque believes Fereshteh offers a rare chance for local viewers to see themselves reflected onscreen in new ways.

He explained: “Foreign cinema teaches us about different cultures.

“In the same way, Fereshteh turns the lens toward our overlooked communities.”

He stressed that the warm response in other countries raises hopes for equal recognition from Bangladeshi audiences once it premieres here.

The cast extends beyond Ahsan and Faruque, featuring well-known names like Shahiduzzaman Selim, Shahed Ali, Rikita Nandini Shimu, and Shaheen Mridha.

Young performer Sathi also appears, adding another perspective to a story that spans across generations within marginalised groups.

The screenplay comes from Bangladeshi writer Mummit Al-Rashid, who shaped both the narrative and its Persian and Bangla versions with Faisal Ifraan.

Jaya Ahsan is credited as co-producer alongside Faruque, reflecting her active role not only as an actor but also as a creative partner.

With its locally rooted storytelling, Fereshteh arrives as one of the year’s most awaited releases.

The film is positioned to remind viewers that even those on the margins carry resilience, dignity, and stories worth celebrating.
