The lavish motor offers a spacious interior and immense ride quality
When looking at expensive cars in India, they have a much heftier price tag than if you wanted to purchase the same vehicle in a different country.
This due to the fact that most of them are brought in through the Completely Built Unit (CBU) route.
CBU refers to several imported cars and bikes which are directly bought in ready shape for sale. The whole car has to be booked and an order has to be placed for a customer to buy it.
As a result, they are taxed more than their original cost. However, those who have deep enough pockets will splash out.
In terms of prices, they vary so the cost of the vehicles are usually an estimate.
Many of the vehicles which fall under the CBU category are high-end, luxury cars.
The likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini are some of the lavish car brands that the wealthy go for.
One of the most popular car manufacturers in India is Rolls-Royce, so it is no surprise that there are several models within the 10 most expensive cars to buy in the country.
Rolls-Royce Ghost
Cost – Rs. 4.9 Crore (£537,000)
The Rolls-Royce Ghost is seen as the entry point within the British car manufacturer and is the cheapest but there is no expense paid in terms of luxury.
In India, the Ghost is sold in two versions, short wheelbase (SWB) and extended wheelbase (EWB).
The lavish motor offers a spacious interior and immense ride quality as well as numerous extras to create a bespoke car for every customer.
In 2014, the Ghost received an update which saw minor changes such as small design changes and LED headlights.
While it is a luxury vehicle, it is no slouch when it comes to performance. It is powered by a 6.6-litre V12 which produces nearly 570BHP.
The Ghost will provide a regal motoring experience but it comes at a price that only India’s rich and famous can afford.
Rolls-Royce Wraith
Cost – Approximately Rs. 5 Crore (£548,000)
The Rolls-Royce Wraith is the British company’s take on a sporty coupé which can be seen by the design of its body.
The dynamic vehicle is also only available in a two-door format. While it is sportier than other Rolls-Royce models, the level of refinement remains the same.
It features an elegant interior which will make driving all the more enjoyable.
It is considered to be a luxury grand tourer but it is also a high-performance car which will appeal to car enthusiasts.
The Wraith is powered by a 6.6-litre V12 which produces 623BHP.
Although it seems like it would make the car seem noisy, it is said to be one of the quietest models under the Rolls-Royce brand.
Ferrari 812 Superfast
Cost – Rs. 5.2 Crore (£570,000)
The Ferrari 812 Superfast maybe a grand tourer but it is one of the most powerful supercars to be produced by the Italian carmaker.
It is the most powerful Ferrari to be launched in India with a 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 that generates 789BHP. In 2018, it was the most powerful naturally aspirated production car engine ever made.
The result is a car which goes from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of 211 mph.
The Superfast was launched in India in 2019 and it is one of the most expensive cars to buy.
It has a front-mid engine layout to give it a balanced weight distribution which makes it ideal to go around a track or cruising on the open road.
The Superfast prioritises style and performance but the drawback is the high price, however, wealthy petrolheads in India will not hesitate to buy one.
Aston Martin Vanquish
Cost – Rs. 5.2 Crore (£570,000)
The Vanquish is one of the most recognised names from Aston Martin and it was revived in 2012 to replace the DBS.
It received a styling overhaul with some inspiration aspects coming from the manufacturer’s supercar, the One-77.
The Vanquish has a tweaked version of the famous grille and the headlights have been slightly changed.
Aerospace level engineering meant that the body was made of carbon fibre. The result is a stunning car that will turn heads in India.
The performance has also been a focus. The Vanquish has a 5.9-litre V12 engine that produces 568BHP and has a top speed of 201 mph.
It truly is one of the most luxurious cars to be sold in India but is also one of the costliest.
Lamborghini Aventador Roadster
Cost – Rs. 5.3 Crore (£581,000)
The Aventador is one of the most popular supercars in India so you could imagine what the excitement was like when the Roadster was introduced.
It is the convertible version of the Aventador and it is all about the high-performance.
The Aventador Roadster goes from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of 217 mph. That is thanks to a V12 engine that produces 690BHP.
Performance may be what the car is known for but the design was a major focus.
It has sharp edges which give it a jaw-dropping look and it also features the scissor doors that Lamborghini is known for.
It may be one of India’s most expensive cars but that will not stop the wealthy from getting their hands on the premium motor.
Rolls-Royce Dawn
Cost – Approximately Rs. 6 Crore (£658,000)
The Rolls-Royce Dawn is a unique creation by the British manufacturer as it is a convertible.
As with all Rolls-Royces, luxury is the main thing and the Dawn provides a lavish open-top driving experience.
It is a completely new design, meaning that the Dawn shares nothing with other models apart from the doors and the grille.
The Dawn has a 6.6-litre V12 engine that produces 563BHP but with other models, the priority is to create a luxurious experience.
The four-seater vehicle provides the driver and their passengers with ultimate comfort.
As well as offering luxury equipment, the Dawn features agile handling despite being a big car. That is due to its adaptive suspension so that it drives well even on difficult road surfaces.
Bentley Mulsanne
Cost – Rs. 6.9 Crore (£757,000)
British carmaker Bentley is responsible for creating the Mulsanne which is their flagship luxury model.
Even though it is a lavish sedan, it is one of the fastest in the world as it is powered by a 6.8-litre V8 that produces 505BHP and a colossal 1,020 Nm of torque.
Despite measuring 5.8 metres long and weighing 2.7 tonnes, the Mulsanne goes from 0 to 62 mph in just 5.1 seconds.
Like other luxury sedans, the Mulsanne is available in either SWB or EWB depending on what customers prefer.
The EWB variant is the most expensive production car Bentley have ever made.
No matter what option Indian buyers choose, they will be travelling in style.
Rolls-Royce Cullinan
Cost – Rs. 6.95 Crore (£762,000)
The Cullinan is Rolls-Royce’s most innovative luxury car as it is their first SUV. Since it’s release, it holds the title of most expensive SUV in the world.
In India, it has an extremely high price due to it being a CBU but it offers a lot in terms of bespoke accessories.
All sorts of unique additions will make the Cullinan one of a kind for the customer but they must be prepared to fork out even more money for that to become possible.
The vehicle is the first four-wheel-drive from Rolls-Royce and various off-road modes ensure that the driver and passengers travel in comfort.
The Cullinan is powered by a 6.75-litre V12 that produces 563BHP and has 850 Nm of torque.
It is a sophisticated SUV for those who want to travel everywhere in style.
Lamborghini Aventador SVJ
Cost – Up to Rs. 8 Crore (£878,000)
The second most expensive car to buy in India is the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ which is a track-focused version of the Aventador S.
Depending on which version and what extras you prefer, prepare to part with your wallet.
It is one of the fastest models in the impressive line of Lamborghinis. It uses the same 6.5-litre V12 used in previous Aventadors and it has been reworked.
The result is now a massive 770BHP which means it goes from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.8 seconds and all the way up to 217 mph.
Featuring a large spoiler and huge air intakes, the SVJ is more suited to the track than the roads of India.
Even though it will appeal to India’s wealthy, the SVJ is extremely rare as it is limited to just 963 units worldwide including 63 special editions called the “63 Edition”.
Rolls-Royce Phantom
Cost – Up to Rs. 11 Crore (£1.2 million)
The Phantom has always been Rolls-Royce’s flagship model and as it is renowned for its luxury, it is no surprise that is the most expensive car to buy in India.
Like other luxury sedans, the Phantom comes in SWB and EWB.
The Phantom is known for its sophisticated interiors and the eighth generation is no different. It now has LED projector headlights as well as a larger grille.
As with other models, owners can customise their car to their own taste by choosing from a plethora of accessories.
It may be powered by a 6.75-litre V12 engine but Rolls-Royce claims it is one of the quietest cars in the world.
India is filled with luxurious and expensive cars. While most cars are elegant sedans, some are high-powered supercars.
However, due to them being imported through the CBU route, they are much more expensive than their original price.
Nevertheless, the rich and famous will try to get their hands on them which is why they are often spotted on the roads.
