“We believe quite simply, it is the sexiest Rolls-Royce ever made.”
British car maker Rolls-Royce marks a new era of super-luxury car making in the form of the all-new mode, Dawn.
Launched live and exclusively online from Goodwood HQ on September 8, Jodie Kidd and CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös were on hand to unveil the seductive car.
Dawn is a modern upgraded four-seater open top ‘drophead’ Phantom, clearly marketed and designed to attract a ‘younger, more social customer’.
DESIblitz brings you all you need to know about the Rolls-Royce Dawn.
Interior
Coated in a sublime ‘Midnight Sapphire’ colour, its flowing open-pore wood deck and bespoke hand-stitched Mandarin leather interior bring subdued elegance throughout.
From the regal coach doors and four bucket seats to the polished metal chaplets around the dials, everything about the interior speaks precision quality craftmanship.
The wood deck behind the rear seats is meant to curve down the middle seats in a ‘waterfall effect’.
Müller-Ötvös comments: “We believe quite simply, it is the sexiest Rolls-Royce ever made.
“Dawn is a beautiful new motor car that offers the most uncompromised open-top motoring experience in the world.”
Other features include a Satellite Aided Transmission, which uses GPS signals to ensure the car is in correct gear at all times, and a 16 speaker set-up to maintain ambient noise levels.
Exterior
Perhaps the sexiest feature of Dawn is its innovative new roof.
It brings striking flair to both style and engineering, claiming to be the quietest soft top available in the world.
Made from six-layered French tailored canvas seam, it can silently open and close within 22 seconds, even whilst the car cruises at 30mph.
Dawn is breathtaking from every angle and its profile maintains perfectly crafted design principles, as well as that all-important hand painted coach line running the length of the car.
The iconic chrome bladed grilles have been extended from previous models to ‘focus the eye on the jet air intake to make the car feel focused’.
Performance
Like all Rolls Royces, Dawn is a big and heavy car weighing 2,560kg.
It will, therefore, need all of its 6.6-litre V12 turbocharged engine to give a smooth ride, ensuring no champagne is spilled for those privileged passengers at the rear.
Acceleration is also swift, reaching 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds with 780Nm torque.
Fuel economy will be of no concern to the deep-pocketed super rich owners and just as well, with Dawn averaging not even 20 mpg.
With an electrically limited top speed of 155mph, this sexy beast will no doubt glide gracefully and effortlessly across scenic coastlines around the world.

Dawn is an evolutionary move by the luxury car maker to appeal to traditionalists, yet subtly drawing in a younger, savvier, ultra-rich and time-poor clientele.
Priced at £250,000, there is little doubt that Dawn will be a global success when it becomes available to purchase in 2016.
