"Shah Rukh Khan is not attractive in that one at all."

Iman Vellani admitted that she “hates” Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ).

The Ms Marvel star has become the centre of attention since Disney+ released the first episode of Marvel’s newest superhero show.

Hailing from New Jersey, the show is about Pakistani-American teenager Kamala Khan (Iman).

Ms Marvel has been hailed and is breaking boundaries for centring on a South Asian character.

The first episode ended with Kamala gaining her superpowers and along with the superhero elements, Ms Marvel delved into the lives of South Asians in America.

A lot of cultural representation was present, including many references to Bollywood films and songs.

Speaking to BBC Asian Network, Iman and Rish Shah, who plays Kamran, spoke about Shah Rukh Khan as both of their characters are big fans of the Bollywood megastar.

While Iman expressed her appreciation for SRK, she admitted that she is not a fan of one of his most popular films.

She said: “Okay, I hate DDLJ. I shouldn’t say hate, that’s a very strong word.

“Watch it again, it’s really outdated, and a little sexist.

“Shah Rukh Khan is not attractive in that one at all. Sorry.”

Rish chimed: “Listen, Shah Rukh Khan is attractive on all fronts.”

Iman stated: “Ra.One is our favourite movie.”

Rish said: “Ra.One is like a Bollywood Iron Man.”

Iman added:

“I’ve just lost our entire Bollywood viewership.”

Iman Vellani previously spoke about Bollywood, stating that Aamir Khan is a “phenomenal actor”.

Ms Marvel also stars Mohan Kapur and Matt Lintz.

Farhan Akhtar will also be in the show, playing an undisclosed role.

Speaking about Farhan, Iman said he is one of the most fascinating people she has worked with.

Iman explained: “My experience working with Farhan was amazing, he has so many stories to share.

“On set, we’d have quiet moments, and he would just be telling me stories about going sky-diving, what it’s like filming other movies and his career in general.

“I find him such a fascinating person to listen to and he looks so cool in our show.

“It’s crazy that I grew up watching him, and now I am working with him.”

Ms Marvel premiered on Disney+ on June 8, 2022, with one episode released every Wednesday.
