"I always felt insecure about being different."
Sasha Bhasin is taking the entertainment industry by storm after her breakout role in Netflix’s hit series XO, Kitty.
Nearly walking away from acting for a tech career, one audition changed everything for the India-born, Florida-raised star.
Now, she is gearing up for a dynamic 2025 with a packed slate of projects across film, television, and music.
Bhasin joined XO, Kitty in its second season as Praveena, a confident and stylish queer South Asian student at K.I.S.S.
With her radiant skin and freshly cut fringe, she immediately captivated audiences, bringing an irresistible charm to the screen.
For Bhasin, playing Praveena was a dream come true, especially after growing up idolising Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus and closely following their Disney-fuelled career trajectories.
Her own journey into acting, however, was not as straightforward.
In 2011, she attended an open-call audition for Disney Channel but, without formal training, froze in front of the camera.
A decade later, while studying politics at New York University, she quietly pursued acting classes on the side.
She had all but given up on the dream when her agent secured her an audition for XO, Kitty.
Trusting her instincts, she impressed the casting team and, just two weeks later, was on a flight to Seoul to begin filming.
Having left India at birth and never returned, perhaps this is her way of holding on to her identity:
“Growing up in South Florida, I was one of few Indian kids in my school and I always felt insecure about being different.”
When she moved to New York for university and saw different cultures being celebrated, Bhasin felt confident about leaning into hers.
“Now, I always incorporate Indian jewellery into all of my outfits. In the summer, I get my mehendi done like body chains all over me.”
The To All the Boys spin-off has cemented itself as a global favourite, amassing millions of viewers across 50+ countries.
Season one ended on a dramatic note as Kitty Song Covey realised she had feelings for her best friend Yuri—just as Yuri reunited with her ex, Juliana.
Season two picks up with Kitty vowing to prioritise family and studies, but Praveena’s arrival proves to be an alluring distraction.
With XO, Kitty wrapped, Sasha Bhasin is making 2025 her playground.
She recently recorded her debut single in Mexico, describing it as a “maximalist anthem” with an equally bold music video in the works.
Beyond music, she is also stepping into new acting roles, featuring in five episodes of the medical drama The Pitt and making her big-screen debut in Brave the Dark.
From Hollywood to the music studio, Sasha Bhasin is proving to be a force to watch.
With an electrifying career ahead, she is just getting started.
