the film explores a story of love, perseverance and destiny
The official trailer for The Cycle Of Love has been unveiled by London-based documentary film company Dogwoof.
The upcoming true-life love story is executive produced by Priyanka Chopra Jonas and directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Orlando von Einsiedel.
Starring Mumbai-born British stage and screen actor Chirag Benedict Lobo, the film will release in UK and Irish cinemas nationwide on September 18, 2026, following its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival, where it captivated audiences.
Based on the remarkable true story of Indian artist PK Mahanandia, The Cycle Of Love follows his extraordinary journey from Delhi to Europe in pursuit of the woman he loved.
In 1977, PK, a 23-year-old street artist from a poor, marginalised family, picked up a handful of paintbrushes and a second-hand bicycle to begin a 6,000-mile cross-continent journey to find Lotta, a Swedish woman who had captured his heart during her visit to India.
Set against the backdrop of 1970s India, the film explores a story of love, perseverance and destiny as PK attempts to overcome social barriers, distance and uncertainty to reunite with Lotta.
Chirag Benedict Lobo, known for his role in the West End production of Life of Pi and ITV’s Endeavour, takes on the lead role, portraying the optimism, vulnerability and determination of PK.
His performance brings one of India’s most remarkable real-life love stories to a new generation of audiences, highlighting a journey shaped by self-belief and the courage to follow one’s heart.
The film comes from the multiple Academy Award-winning team behind Virunga, The White Helmets and Learning To Skateboard In A Warzone (If You’re A Girl).
The filmmakers were granted exclusive access to PK and Lotta’s personal archive, including photographs, home videos and handwritten love letters, allowing their story to be told with authenticity and intimacy.
Produced by Grain Media and Kalabati Pictures, in association with BD4, Tudip Entertainment, AMPL, Artemis Rising Foundation and Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ Purple Pebble Pictures, The Cycle Of Love brings together an international creative team to tell a story rooted in India with universal appeal.
On Instagram, Priyanka wrote: “When I first heard the story of the extraordinary journey of @pkmahanandia riding a cycle across continents for love, I was immediately stunned.
“It’s one of those rare, almost unbelievable true stories that stays with you long after you hear it.”
“Directed by @orlandovoneinsiedel, @thecycleoflovefilm is both a sweeping adventure and a deeply human story about resilience, hope, and the courage to follow your heart.
“I am thrilled to share our official trailer with you today and announce that the film will be opening in theatres AUGUST 28 in the US and SEPTEMBER 18 in the UK, with more international release dates coming soon.
“At a time when stories rooted in truth and optimism feel especially meaningful, this film offers an invitation to escape, to connect, and to rediscover the joy of falling in love with cinema… and love itself.”
The Cycle Of Love will be released in British and Irish cinemas on September 18, 2026.
