Ranbir Kapoor’s Lord Ram is presented not as a god
The new trailer for Ramayana: Part 1 was released, offering a closer look at the epic battle between Lord Ram and Ravana ahead of its November 5, 2026, release date.
The trailer shifts the focus towards the conflict at the heart of the ancient epic, showcasing the scale of the battle and the forces driving its two central characters.
It opens by describing an era when men walked among gods and the world existed in perfect order before introducing Ravana, who was born from “fire and fury”.
The visuals highlight the king’s immense strength and his devotion to God, which helped make him a formidable force.
In contrast, Ranbir Kapoor’s Lord Ram is presented not as a god, but as a man chosen by destiny to bring humanity back home.
The trailer follows both characters as they prepare to fulfil their respective destinies, setting the stage for their inevitable confrontation.
The footage also offers a deeper look at the film’s visual effects and production scale, with more polished effects and sweeping battle sequences.
Ramayana‘s music, composed by Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman, further adds to the epic presentation, bringing together two internationally recognised composers for the ambitious project.
Combined with Part 2, the budget is reportedly £375 million, making it one of the most expensive cinematic productions in India.
The film draws on one of the country’s most celebrated mythological epics, whose central themes include sacrifice, duty and the triumph of good over evil.
Ramayana: Part 1 is scheduled to have its world premiere at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures on October 27, 2026.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in association with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, Ramayana: Part 1 is scheduled to release in cinemas worldwide on November 5, 2026.
Its November theatrical release also places it in the Diwali festive period, traditionally an important window for major Indian films.
Also titled Ramayana: Rise of a Legend in its promotional material, the film tells the story of Rama, a prince bound by sacrifice, and Ravana, an immortal king driven by vengeance, whose destinies are linked by prophecy.
The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Yash as Ravana and Sai Pallavi as Sita.
Other cast members include Sunny Deol, Rakul Preet Singh and Vivek Oberoi.
