“I’m incredibly honoured to win this award."
Sky News journalist Amrit Singh Mann was named Outstanding Young Journalist at the Asian Media Awards.
The 2025 ceremony, held in Manchester on October 31, celebrates the top talent and achievements in journalism and media.
Mann, from Slough, received one of the evening’s biggest honours.
During his acceptance speech, Mann thanked his parents for their sacrifices.
A video shared on his social media captured the moment, followed by loud applause from guests.
David Higgerson, Chief Content Officer at Reach PLC, reacted on LinkedIn:
“Seeing a whole room erupt with applause when Amrit Singh Mann of Sky News thanked his parents as he picked up Outstanding Young Journalist and asking his parents to stand up for the applause, was wonderful.”
Mann also used his speech to emphasise the importance of senior leaders supporting and nurturing young talent in journalism.
The former Khalsa Primary School and Khalsa Secondary Academy student joined Sky News as a trainee in 2021, straight after completing his A-levels.
Before starting his career at the 24-hour news broadcaster, the 23-year-old served as a member of the UK Youth Parliament, representing Slough for five years.

Sharing news of his win on social media, Amrit Singh Mann said:
“I’m incredibly honoured to win this award.
“Over the past four years, I’ve been fortunate to work within a brilliant team at Sky News and to tell important stories.
“It remains a privilege to do what I do, and I’m as committed as ever to accurate, independent, and impartial reporting.
“This award is a huge encouragement to keep doing that work.
“I’m deeply grateful to everyone who has supported me along the way – my colleagues, mentors, friends, and family.”
Paul Broster, Associate Dean Academic at the University of Salford and judging panel member, praised Mann:
“Amrit was a deserving winner, showing how he had contributed both on and off screen over a number of years at Sky, unearthing exclusives and providing a voice for many different communities.”
In a post on X, the Asian Media Awards said: “Congratulations to Amrit Singh Mann on being named Outstanding Young Journalist.
“A brilliant and well-deserved honour recognising his exceptional talent, hard work, and impact in journalism.”
Khalsa Primary School paid tribute to the journalist:
“We at Khalsa Primary School are extremely proud of our former pupil, Amrit Singh Mann, who has recently received an amazing accolade, being named as the Outstanding Young Journalist by the Asian Media Awards.
“After just joining Sky News as a reporter a few years ago, this Award is testimony to his immense hard work, astounding talent and huge dedication to journalism.
“He is a true role model to all our pupils at KPS on how successful they can be after leaving school and carrying the Sikh identity with them in whichever future career they wish to pursue.”
The school also highlighted Mann’s speech, where he honoured his parents before wishing him continued success.
“We wish Amrit Singh Mann more success in the future and we hope he keeps up the good work and continues on inspiring other pupils at KPS and students at Pioneer Secondary Academy to also achieve great heights in their chosen career paths too”.
