Khan will need to seek permission from the court before travelling abroad

After spending a total of two nights in a Jodhpur jail, Bollywood superstar, Salman Khan, has been granted bail.

The actor who was convicted of illegally hunting two rare blackbucks in 1998 was sentenced to a 5-year jail term on 5th April 2018 and a Rs 10,000 fine.

After his request for bail was reserved by the Sessions Court, Khan finally secured his leave on the afternoon of Saturday 7th April 2018 on the condition of furnishing two bonds.

One is reportedly a personal bail bond of Rs 50,000 and the second is a Rs 25,000 surety from two people. Both will need to guarantee that Khan will ‘comply with all the bail conditions’.

He will also need to seek permission from the court before travelling abroad.

The bail plea took place at the Jodhpur District and Sessions Court in front of Judge Ravindra Kumar Joshi.

Judge Joshi was transferred onto the poaching case as part of a routine reshuffling of judges in Rajasthan. It is alleged that the Judge reserved his bail decision by an entire day as he wanted to hear all the details of the case.

Having secured his bail, Salman will now need to wait for bail documents to arrive. It is assumed that the actor will be able to leave the jail by 7 pm on Saturday 7th April.

Officers have insisted that Khan has been treated no differently from the other inmates at the Jodhpur Central Jail.

Indian press has reported that Khan had a restless first night in jail and was given Hindi newspapers by the administration. Aside from meeting with his lawyers, Khan was also visited by actress Preity Zinta.

Numerous celebrities in Bollywood and many of Salman’s close friends have been showing their solidarity with the actor during the ongoing court case.

Sonam Kapoor posted a picture of her with Khan on her Instagram page. She captioned the photo: “You’re the best! Always by your side!”

In addition, a stream of Bollywood stars have been appearing at Salman’s Mumbai residence since Thursday 5th April, when the sentence was delivered.

The likes of Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonakshi Sinha, David Dhawan, Malaika and Amrita Arora among others arrived at Khan’s Galaxy Apartments over the two days.

Salman is expected to appeal against his 5-year sentence in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case at a higher court. His next hearing is on 7th May 2018.
