Indian teenager Salman Zakir, aged 19, from Jafrabad, Gujarat, was allegedly shot dead while making a video on TikTok.

He was allegedly shot by his friend as they posed with a pistol on Sunday, April 14, 2019.

During the evening of the incident, Salman had gone out for a drive with his friends Sohail and Amir to visit the India Gate.

On the way back, Salman was driving while Sohail was sitting in the front passenger seat. Sohail then pulled out a country-made pistol and his phone.

He aimed the gun at Salman as he tried to film a video for TikTok, but the gun fired at Salman and the bullet went into his left cheek.

Amir was in the back seat of the car when the incident happened near Barakhamba Road in Central Delhi.

Following the incident, the two young men panicked and drove to Sohail’s relatives’ house in Daryaganji.

He changed his bloodstained clothes and then took Salman to the hospital with one of his relatives. Doctors declared Salman dead after he was admitted.

One of Salman’s family members said:

“Two of his friends came last night and asked him to go to Indian Gate along with them following which Salman took his car and left.

“We received the information about the incident from police and reached the hospital.”

Sohail and Amir left the hospital immediately after admitting Salman. At 11:15 pm, staff members at the hospital informed the police.

The Barakhamba Police Station registered a murder case and a case under the Arms Act. Amir, Sohail and one of the relatives identified as Sharif have been arrested.

Sohail was arrested for firing the gun while Amir had got rid of the gun.

Sharif was not present at the scene of the incident but he disposed of the bloodstained clothes, therefore, he was also arrested.

Police have said that they are investigating whether the gun was fired by mistake or was used intentionally to kill.

Salman’s body has been kept at the hospital and a post-mortem is set to be conducted.

The teenager was an undergraduate student and was the youngest member of his family.

According to a relative, Salman also used to help his father with his clothes business which specialised in selling jackets and jeans.

TikTok has become very popular in India, especially among teenagers and young adults who create and share short video clips.

The free app may be enjoyed in India but it is not without its controversies. The Madras High Court wants the app banned as they feel it encourages pornography.

They also said that it puts children at risk of being exposed by sexual predators. This case shows the consequences of trying to make such extreme videos.
