“The attack took place in broad daylight"
A British-born Sikh woman in her 20s was sexually assaulted, raped and brutally beaten in a racially and sexually motivated attack on September 9 between 8:00 and 8:30 am, according to Sikh Federation (UK).
During the assault, the attackers are said to have shouted:
“You don’t belong in this country, get out.”
West Midlands Police said they are keen to speak with anyone in the area on Tame Road in Oldbury who may have seen two men.
A spokesperson said: “Officers are investigating after a woman was sexually assaulted in Oldbury yesterday (Tuesday).
“We were called just before 8:30 am after a woman in her 20s reported a sexual assault around Tame Road, Oldbury.”
The men are described as white. One had a shaved head, a heavy build, and was reportedly wearing a dark-coloured sweatshirt and gloves. The second man was said to be wearing a grey top with a silver zip.
Sikh Youth UK has met the victim and is supporting her and her family.
They have urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to come forward to help identify those responsible for the “brutal racist and sexual attack”.
The group has also alerted the wider community to remain vigilant, ensure family members are safe, and strengthen safeguarding measures in daily routines.
Dabinderjit Singh OBE, Lead Executive for Political Engagement at the Sikh Federation (UK), said:
“The attack took place in broad daylight on a busy road where the local MP has his office.
“We have reached out to Gurinder Singh Josan, the MP for Smethwick, to take urgent action, but have not yet had a response.
“Politicians from all political parties should have zero tolerance for all violent racist attacks.”
“The current racist political environment is driven by popularism and created by politicians playing the ‘anti-immigration card’ who are unashamedly exploiting those with right-wing and racist views.
“More than 48 hours later, we await the public condemnation by politicians on all sides of this brutal racist and sexual attack where a young Sikh woman has been viciously beaten and raped.”
The attack follows a recent assault on two elderly Sikh taxi drivers in Wolverhampton.
Jatinder Singh, President at Guru Nanak Gurdwara Smethwick, has been in contact with Sikh Youth UK and will host a public meeting about the incident.
Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. Anyone who saw the men or has details is urged to contact West Midlands Police immediately.
