"Let’s finally put our own people first.”
Republican activist Charlie Kirk died after being shot at an event at Utah Valley University.
While his death shocked many across the US, attention is now focusing on his recent comments about Indian workers and immigration.
On September 2, 2025, Kirk wrote on X about Indian professionals working in the United States:
“America does not need more visas for people from India.
“Perhaps no form of legal immigration has so displaced American workers as those from India.
“Enough already. We’re full. Let’s finally put our own people first.”
His comments were in response to Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham, who had posted about the United States potentially granting more visas to Indians as part of trade talks with New Delhi.
Kirk’s past comments tapped into a broader conservative debate on the H-1B visa system, which allows highly skilled foreign professionals to work in the US.
Far-right activist Laura Loomer later added, “You don’t need to press 2 for English anymore. Make Call Centres American Again”, urging the US to ban outsourcing to Indian call centres.
Charlie Kirk had been addressing a crowd on the Utah campus when he was shot in the neck.
Disturbing footage showed him moving his hand toward his neck before falling from a chair. He was rushed to the hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead.

US President Donald Trump confirmed Kirk’s death in a post on Truth Social, saying:
“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead.
“No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie.
“He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us.
“Melania and my sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika and family. Charlie, we love you!”
Trump later blamed the “radical left” for Kirk’s killing, accusing them of comparing people like him to “Nazis and the world’s mass murderers and criminals”.
The FBI initially took two suspects into custody, but both have since been released, with officials confirming they were found to have “no current ties” to the shooting.
The suspect behind Kirk’s shooting remains at large, and an FBI investigation is ongoing.
Charlie Kirk was the co-founder of Turning Point USA, a prominent organisation that engages conservative youth on school campuses.
Kirk and Turning Point USA played a key role in driving youth support for Trump in last November’s presidential election. His events at college campuses nationwide typically draw large crowds.
