A Pakistani man shot and killed his teenage daughter in Rawalpindi after she refused to delete her TikTok account.

The Rawalpindi police confirmed the incident on July 9, 2025.

The victim, Mehak Shahzadi, was a student living in the Dhok Chaudhryan Takht Padi area.

She was allegedly gunned down by her father, Akhlaq Ahmed, in their home.

According to officials, Akhlaq had repeatedly ordered Mehak to delete her TikTok account.

When she refused again, he allegedly opened fire. She died on the spot. After the killing, Akhlaq fled the scene.

Police say the family initially tried to label the incident a suicide.

However, further investigation exposed inconsistencies in that claim.

A murder case was registered at Rawat Police Station based on a complaint by Head Constable Shahbaz Anjum.

Police said the suspect, who worked in local real estate, was later arrested in Rawat. The weapon used in the crime was also recovered.

Three separate police teams were formed to trace him. These were led by the Rawat SHO, Homicide Unit In-charge Jamal, and a senior officer.

SP Saddar supervised the entire operation. Officials said the arrest was made within 24 hours of launching the manhunt.

Law enforcement stated there were no signs of a struggle at the scene. Neighbours told police the household had appeared tense in recent weeks.

According to investigators, Akhlaq was enraged by his daughter’s continued use of TikTok, which he believed brought shame to the family.

The tragic incident has once again raised alarm over the ongoing issue of so-called “honour killings” in Pakistan.

Despite awareness campaigns and legal reforms, many women and girls continue to fall victim to this form of domestic violence.

Authorities now plan to use forensic evidence and mobile phone data to build a strong case against the suspect.

Police have assured that no leniency will be shown. They emphasised that honour cannot be used as an excuse for murder.

The killing has triggered a wave of online outrage, with activists demanding justice and protections for young women online and offline.

No other family member has been named in the investigation so far.

An autopsy is expected to confirm the exact cause of death.

Legal proceedings are set to begin once police complete their preliminary questioning of Akhlaq.
