"a narrative that feels immediate, grounded and unforgettable.”
Indian indie developer underDOGS Studio is raising the stakes with Mukti, its boldest project yet under Sony’s PlayStation India Hero Project.
Variety reported that the first-person adventure, set for a 2026 release, brings together acclaimed talent.
This includes Ahilya Bamroo, known for Shoojit Sircar’s I Want to Talk, veteran theatre actor MK Raina, Pawan Chopra, and Sraman Chatterjee.
Instead of relying on traditional animation or motion capture, the team filmed the actors’ scenes like film sequences before incorporating them into the interactive experience.
Vaibhav Chavan, the game’s director and underDOGS Studio’s founder-CEO, said:
“These aren’t cameos.
“They are the emotional core of Mukti. Every performance was treated like cinema, carefully directed and seamlessly integrated into the game.
“The result is a narrative that feels immediate, grounded and unforgettable.”
Ahilya Bamroo takes the lead as Arya Roy, whose grandfather has mysteriously disappeared amid accusations of heinous crimes.
She discovers the museum he owned has been vandalised and abandoned.
Through this exploration, Arya pieces together a narrative of heritage, compassion and obscured truths, questioning everything she knew about his existence.
MK Raina steps into the role of Dr Vikram Roy, Pawan Chopra plays Commodore Balraj Gill, and Sraman Chatterjee portrays Hasan.
The official synopsis reads: “In Mukti, players embark on a journey of discovery as they navigate the labyrinthine corridors of the museum, uncovering the harrowing truths and hidden narratives behind the scourge of human trafficking.
“Through rich storytelling and immersive gameplay mechanics, Mukti invites players to confront the realities faced by victims and survivors alike, shedding light on this pressing global issue.
“Drawing inspiration from authentic narratives and meticulously researched historical contexts, Mukti aims to raise awareness, provoke thought, and inspire action.
“Each interaction within the game is designed to provoke empathy, spark dialogue and ignite change.”
The studio calls this approach vital to delivering what it describes as a “groundbreaking, immersive experience” that mixes mystery with Indian cultural elements.
Mukti is planned for PlayStation 5 and PC, with dual-language voice acting in English and Hindi, plus subtitles for wider international reach.
It marks a major investment for the Mumbai-based studio, which has embraced the long development cycle needed for such an ambitious production.
Sony’s India Hero Project is designed to support Indian studios with global potential.
Mukti will be an early test of whether story-driven titles from India can capture worldwide audiences. Players can already wishlist the game on PlayStation Store and Steam ahead of launch.
