Netflix has announced Kurukshetra, a new animated series that reimagines the Mahabharata for modern audiences.
Conceptualised and created by Anu Sikka, the series is produced by Tipping Point, with Alok Jain, Anu Sikka, and Ajit Andhare overseeing production.
Written and directed by Ujaan Ganguly, it also features legendary poet and lyricist Gulzar as the official lyricist.
Kurukshetra centres on the climactic 18-day battle, examining the conflict through the perspectives of 18 warriors.
The series explores their personal dilemmas, vendettas and the consequences of a war that pits brother against brother.
Kurukshetra will be released in two parts, each consisting of nine episodes, capturing the moral complexity and emotional intensity of the epic.

As part of its growing original content slate, Netflix India is expanding into the animated mythology genre.
Kurukshetra offers a fresh take on one of India’s greatest stories, bringing ancient wisdom into a contemporary and globally accessible format.
The series premieres on Netflix on October 10, 2025.
