"No! I don’t think that’s a weird thing either."
Love Island star Shakira Khan has revealed why she and Harry Cooksley are yet to make their relationship official.
The pair finished second on the show and things have been going well for them.
Speaking on Capital XTRA Breakfast, Shakira said:
“So we’ve just had a really nice weekend in Burnley, actually.
“So he came up to visit, showed him the ropes, showed him the town it was great. It was nice to just have a bit of R&R and like, get away from all the noise.
“Because it’s been a lot, I think when I had such a normal life before, to be thrown into such chaos, it’s important just to have time to ourselves and just spend some quality time together.
“So, yeah, it’s been really good.”
But despite them frequenting each other’s Instagrams, they are not rushing into becoming boyfriend and girlfriend.
Host Shayna Marie asked: “Are you boyfriend and girlfriend?”
Shakira revealed: “No! I don’t think that’s a weird thing either. In my past relationships, I probably dated them for three months.
“And it’s a label we are still very much figuring out our new life, adjusting to stuff and spending time with each other.
“I don’t feel like there’s any pressure on it. I think when your relationship is in the public eye everyone is like, ‘Why aren’t you married?’”
Harry also opened up about their relationship when speaking to Christine Lampard on ITV’s Lorraine.
He said: “Speaking to Shakira one-on-one, it was natural. I’d buried a lot of emotions for her and it all came out. I’m so glad I stuck my neck out.”
Harry also clarified his status before entering the villa:
“I couldn’t have been more single going into the villa, but I was dating and seeing people. I only told four people I was going in.”
When Christine asked if they were official, Harry cautiously replied:
“I don’t think exclusive is such a big thing on the outside world.”
“When we rekindled, I only had eyes for Shakira and that hasn’t changed.”
Beyond the romance, Shakira also became a fan favourite for her friendship with Toni Laites and Yasmin Pettet.
Now known as “The Big Three“, their bond remains strong outside the Love Island villa.
Reflecting on her growing recognition, Shakira said:
“I wouldn’t call it fame, but walking down the street is a bit different now. It’s definitely new.”
She also teased an upcoming project with Toni and Yasmin:
“The Big Three, we’ve got some exciting things coming up, hopefully. So stay tuned, watch this space.”
