“We would like to show people our world of Mohenjo Daro.”
Award-winning fashion designer, Neeta Lulla, is the mastermind behind the costume designs for Mohenjo Daro.
Although it was originally to be done by the Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning April Ferry, Neeta has taken on the challenge.
With the extensive amount of research that goes into producing the period drama film, the costumes would require special attention.
The garments need to illustrate the nature of the era and transport the audience to the period that it wants to represent.
Neeta reveals it is difficult to style for period drama films, as there has to be the right balance between authenticity of the era and current fashion trends.
She says: “It’s a very difficult to style for period drama films as one needs to work under certain parameters of research.
“The script and research material was given to us. We had to work accordingly on the costumes.
“There was no visual garmentary available in that era, so one had to work with your own creative sensibilities to create the world of Mohenjo Daro.
“We had to keep in mind what the costumes look like of that era and also keep in mind today’s audience as they are going to watch the film.”
The grand adventure-drama features Hrithik Roshan and newcomer Pooja Hedge in lead roles.
It also reunites Neeta with the film’s director Ashutosh Gowariker, after working together on Jodha Akbar (2008) and What’s Your Raashee? (2009).
Hrithik can be seen wearing impoverished costumes of a farmer in the film trailer, while Pooja Hedge looks astounding in her flowery headwear and feathered outfit.
The designer explains: “It’s an epic film and we had to create a world and vision that the director wanted.
“We would like to show people our world of Mohenjo Daro.”
The much-awaited drama is set in the Indus Valley civilisation and is about a man who falls in live with his enemy’s dancer daughter.
Mohenjo Daro is scheduled to release on August 12, 2016.
