"This is India's first Hollywood level movie."

The trailer for Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD has been released and it presents a thrilling adventure that intertwines mythology and science-fiction.

Kalki 2898 AD is reported to be set against a backdrop of Indian mythology.

It will also encompass a dystopian society in the city of Kashi (Varanasi), appearing to have influences from Denis Villeneuve’s Dune franchise.

The trailer begins with a young male voice labelling Kashi as “the last city in the world”.

Another character declares: “There’s only one God – Supreme Yaskin.”

The young boy then asks Ashwatthama (Amitabh Bachchan): “Do you know how many people you can save?”

In a baritone voice, Ashwatthama replies: “There’s only one person that I’m here to save.”

The trailer then cuts to several characters saying: “I saw this 6,000 years ago.

“If that power is back, then it means that it’s time for the light to shine.”

Ashwatthama then tells a pregnant Padma (Deepika Padukone):

“It isn’t an ordinary life that you’re going to birth. It’s the Creation itself. I will save you.”

The trailer for Kalki 2898 AD then moves to an armour-clad Prabhas, who plays the central character of Bhairava.

He declares: “There’s only one side in this world. Your own.”

His mission is to bring a certain woman back.

Confident, charming and suave, Bhairava says to his opponents: “Check your records.

“I’ve never lost a single fight. I won’t lose this one either.”

After a series of fast cuts that show nail-biting action, Padma questions:

“For a baby who hasn’t taken their first breath yet, how many more people need to die?”

A voice then whispers: “Don’t be afraid. A new world will rise!”

This suggests that the film promises to be an enthralling saga of fantasy, adventure and action.

Kalki 2898 AD also stars Kamal Haasan.

The trailer garnered positive reviews from fans.

One viewer commented: “Kamal Haasan’s transformation literally killed it.”

Another added: “Kamal Haasan + Prabhas + Amitabh Bachchan = Deadly Trio.”

A third said: “The best VFX in Indian cinema until now.”

One more fan highlighted the Hollywood feel of the trailer.

They wrote: “Now, this is India’s first Hollywood-level movie.”

One could argue that the film suggests a combination of Dune and Star Wars, given its iconography and setting.

The film is directed by the renowned Telugu filmmaker Nag Ashwin.

He is famous for helming Yevade Subramanyam (2015), Mahanti (2018) and Pitta Katahalu (2021).

Under such a capable director and with an intriguing story, Kalki 2898 AD has huge box office potential.

The film is scheduled to be released on June 27, 2024.
