"Alia coming to show what an actual female-led film is."
The theatrical trailer for Alia Bhatt’s Jigra has been released and shows the actress as Satya.
Satya has endured a difficult childhood, and her only ally is her brother Ankur Anand (Vedang Raina).
Ankur is imprisoned and tortured mercilessly in a foreign prison and it is up to Satya to rescue her brother.
The trailer of Jigra opens with Satya on the phone to Ankur.
She desperately asks him: “Ankur, did you screw up? Did you do drugs? Did anyone use your phone? Did Kabir use it?
“Your blood sample will be clean, right? Don’t worry, you will be fine.”
In a foreign court, Ankur, who is detained, is told: “Death by electrocution in three months.”
Satya is then seen holding a knife to her wrist. She asks: “What if there is a medical emergency?
“If I slit my wrist, will they let me see Ankur? I’m not being dramatic. Just tell me the rules.
“Can an inmate meet a family member in a life-and-death situation? It’s very simple.”
The Jigra trailer goes on to show Satya in violent and unsettling scenarios such as getting beaten up and falling through trees.
She also demolishes the whole menu on a plane followed by fast cuts of Satya running alongside explosions and fireballs.
Ankur is then whipped in prison and he lets out a ripping scream.
The next scene in the trailer shows Satya finally visiting him in prison. She asks: “Anyone bothering you in here?”
Ankur replies: “Would anyone dare if you’re my sister? One in a million.”
The trailer also shows flashbacks of Satya protecting Ankur when they were children.
A grown-up Satya declares: “I never claimed to be an ethical person. I’m just Ankur’s sister.”
The teaser for Jigra was recently released and gained positive comments from fans.
This time, people did not shy away from praising the trailer too.
One user commented: “This is the first movie showing what a sister can do for her brother. A good initiative.
“I hope Bollywood brings more movies on realistic emotions like families. Unlike always sticking to love stories.”
Another person gushed: “Nepotism is unable to make another Alia Bhatt. Everyone is failing hard which shows how talented Alia is.”
A third fan wrote: “Alia coming to show what an actual female-led film is.”
Alia shared the energy that inspired her to sign Jigra. She explained:
“When I signed Jigra, I think I was in my tigress mode.”
“I was in my most protective – like, ‘No one come near her’ mode.
“That was the energy. That is why I always say that destiny, luck, and life has so much to play in things going a certain way.”
Jigra has been directed by Vasan Bala and has been co-produced by Alia and Dharma Productions.
It is scheduled to be released on October 11, 2024.
