Globally, Jigra also fell short with total earnings

Alia Bhatt’s latest film, Jigra, has made headlines not just for its disappointing box office performance but because it is her lowest opener in a decade.

Jigra initially generated excitement among movie buffs when the trailer was released.

Many praised the emotional depth and intensity, with Alia showcasing her much-anticipated “tigress mode”.

However, the film has received mixed reviews and struggled to attract audiences.

On its opening day in India, it collected just Rs. 4.5 Crore, a surprisingly low figure for a film starring such a prominent actress.

In comparison, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, a quirky comedy featuring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri, outperformed Jigra.

It stood out with a box office collection of Rs. 5.25 Crore on the same day.

Globally, Jigra also fell short with total earnings of Rs. 7.45 Crore on its opening day.

It saw a slight recovery on the second day with a 42% increase in earnings, bringing in Rs. 6.5 Crore.

However, critics claim this surge may not be enough to salvage its poor start.

It is now being noted as Alia Bhatt’s weakest opener since Highway in 2014, which had a collection of Rs. 3.4 Crore.

Reports of empty theatre halls during Jigra‘s screenings further illustrate the problems.

Amid this backdrop, Kangana Ranaut took to Instagram to share a cryptic note.

The actress criticised the state of women-centric cinema.

Kangana stated: “When you destroy women-centric films and make sure that they don’t work, they don’t work, even when you make them. Read that again. Thanks.”

She previously made jabs at Alia during the release of Gangubai Kathiawadi, calling her a “papa ki pari” and a “romcom bimbo”.

Adding to this all, Divya Khosla Kumar highlighted empty screenings.

Netizens have taken to social media to share their theories on why Jigra failed to resonate with audiences.

Some have even gone as far as to suggest that Alia might be under a “curse”, with many pointing fingers at her husband Ranbir Kapoor.

A viral thread on Reddit has caught attention, where users have discussed the so-called “Ranbir Kapoor curse.”

They have claimed that his previous relationships have been marked by professional downturns for his ex-girlfriends.

One user commented: “She got the Ranbir Kapoor curse… previously experienced by his exes.”

Another stated: “That man really is a ‘panauti’ and brings such bad luck to his girlfriends/wife. Good luck Alia!!”
