Despite a strong cast and decent box office numbers, ‘Deemak’ has struggled to impress audiences for various reasons.

“Don’t watch it. It’s a complete waste of time."

Deemak, a horror film that hit cinemas on Eid, has stirred mixed reactions from audiences despite boasting an impressive cast.

Directed by Rafay Rashdi and written by Ayesha Mazaffar, the film explores themes of black magic and possession within a haunted setting.

Produced by Syed Murad Ali, Deemak marks the return of veteran actress Samina Peerzada, last seen in the critically acclaimed drama Balaa.

The movie features big names like Faysal Quraishi, Sonya Hussyn, Bushra Ansari, Javed Sheikh, Saman Ansari, and Samina Peerzada.

While the ensemble cast generated high expectations, the actual film has drawn polarised reviews.

So far, Deemak has earned Rs. 6 crore (£157,000) at the box office, reflecting decent commercial performance.

The team recently held a celebration to mark its initial success, but audience feedback tells a more complicated story.

Most criticism has been directed toward the film’s writing and genre confusion.

While marketed as horror, many viewers have labelled it more of a psychological thriller.

One viewer posted: “Don’t watch it. It’s a complete waste of time. Only Samina Peerzada’s acting is better in the movie.”

Another added: “It has stellar acting performances with a weak and boring script.”

The consensus seems to be that the performances, especially by Samina Peerzada and Sonya Hussyn, stand out, but the storyline lacks depth and coherence.

Some viewers went as far as comparing it to cartoons.

One comment read: “It is a bad movie; one can watch cartoons instead of Deemak.

Another said: “Pakistani dramas are way better than these cartoonish movies.”

Many pointed to subpar CGI as a major disappointment.

A viewer commented: “They could have shown the actors as ghosts with good get-up. CGI was bad. It looked like a scene from cartoons.”

The film’s release opposite Love Guru also drew attention.

Some fans stated that Deemak shouldn’t have been scheduled against a lighter, potentially more appealing film.

A review published in the Express Tribune echoed public frustration.

It noted that while Deemak had moments of compelling drama, the overall execution lacked originality.

“There’s little novelty, or even the bare minimum, to distract an audience.”

Despite the criticisms, Deemak offers glimpses of what could have been a gripping psychological horror had the storytelling matched the cast’s capabilities.

For now, it remains a film remembered more for missed potential than for genuine scares.
