“If anyone can helm a female-oriented film in Bollywood, it’s Kangana."
The much-awaited teaser of Manikarnika: Queen of Jhansi (2019) featuring Kangana Ranaut as Rani Laxmibai has been released.
The teaser shows Kangana as fierce warrior Queen Laxmi Bai of Jhansi who is going to war against the British in order to defend her country.
The epic biographical film is based on the life of Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi and her battle against the British East India Company in 1857 during the Indian Rebellion.
The film narrates a story of “courage, strength and determination.”
Krish known for Gabbar is Back (2015) is the director of the film, while Zee Studios and Kamal Jain are the producers.
With plenty of high-action fight scenes and epic dialogues, the two-minute teaser certainly packs a punch.
It has received over 14.5 million views on YouTube, and fans have rushed to social media to express their opinions on it.
Praising the acting and what the film can achieve, a Twitter user commented:
“#ManikarnikaTeaser is fantastic. National award-worthy acting and Oscar-level VFX work. Won’t be surprised if some Hollywood records get broken too.”
Focusing on the film’s lead actress, another user mentioned: “Kangana is brilliant, her eyes are full of pain and fire, her determination is a warrior, amazing performance.”
Commenting on the potential of Kangana, a fan on Reddit said: “If anyone can helm a female-oriented film in Bollywood, it’s Kangana. I’m excited for this.”
The teaser also received some negative responses with some bashing Kangana’s performance.
Highlighting exaggeration, a Reddit user expressed: “Man how awful is this? Kangana has fooled everyone with her over the top screaming that she is a good actress.”
Another user felt Kangana is one dimensional and like in your face saying: “At the very best she is a limited one note actress. Her acting is loud and too on the nose.”
Kangana has also become a viral sensation due to the memes being made out of her from the teaser.
I don’t encourage trolling but this one’s too obvious and too funny. #KanganaRanaut resemblrs #Voldemort in #ManikarnikaTeaser. ??? @HrithikRules @Pranaywaaa @Hrithikdbest @HrithikWeb @iHrithikFan @iHrithiksSniper pic.twitter.com/nf5a1QvQZa

Many have likened it to “being at the dentist after a root canal” with the same still being compared to Lord Voldemort from the Harry Potter series.
Plenty of social media users have jumped on the bandwagon and also created a wide range of funny memes.
Controversially, many users have also shared a meme of Kangana beheading Hrithik Roshan during the battle sequence.
This refers back to the pair’s very public spat and legal battle, along with Manikarnika releasing on the same day as Hrithik’s Super 30.
Undeterred by the viral memes, Kangana posed alongside her co-stars for some pictures on Instagram to celebrate the success of the teaser.
Kangana’s team handle on Instagram posted a picture and a boomerang of the women celebrating on their page.
The picture was captioned:
“When you happy and you know it pout! Celebrations all around as #Manikarnika girls celebrate the stupendous response to the #ManikarnikaTeaser.”
Alongside Kangana, the movie also stars Ankita Lokhande, Atul Kulkarni, Jisshu Sengupta and Danny Denzongappa as well as many other actors.
In 1953, another epic Hindi movie depicting the life of Jhansi was made called Jhansi Ki Rani. It starred Mehtab in the lead role and was first released as a black and white film in 1952 and then in colour.
Manikarnika: Queen of Jhansi will be released on 25th January 2019.
