"We both want Jhansi, the difference is you want to rule and I want to serve.”
The official trailer of Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi came out on December 18, 2018.
Fans who were excitedly awaiting the trailer for this period film were not disappointed.
There has been a general buzz around the film, ever since the filmmakers released the official teaser on October 02, 2018.
Audiences are looking forward to Kangana Ranaut play the role of the fierce Queen of Jhansi. Going from Queen to Rani, expectations are high for Ranaut and this Indian historical biographical film.
There was an actual trailer launch event coinciding with the release of the video in Mumbai.
Besides Kangana, the cast and crew were in attendance including writer Prasoon Joshi, screenwriter K V Vijayendra Prasad, music trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, producer Kamal Jain, actor Jisshu Sengupta and actress Ankita Lokhande.
Character actor from the 1980’s Suresh Oberoi also attended the event.
At the launch talking about comparisons with Queen of Jhansi, Ranaut said:
“I am very fortunate if you are comparing me with Queen of Jhansi. My mom and dad are here. I always thought why they gave birth to me. But now, I finally feel my life has a purpose.”
The trailer shows all the successful ingredients, which will make this film a super duper hit.
The movie has two directors, South Indian film director Krish who is known for Gabbar is Back (2015). Kangana who is the co-director of the film has enjoyed the experience of having a dual role.
“I was telling my sister yesterday, ‘I don’t know what is it about me but I really love working as a technician.’
“No actor wants to be out in the sun as opposed to being in the AC van. No actor wants to be among 80 sweaty people who are asking you 100 questions.
“No actor wants to do recce when they can sit conveniently in their luxury suites.
“I don’t know what is it about me that I am so comfortable in this job. There is nothing I love more than directing. Even though I don’t get to wear makeup or look like my star self or get any special treatment.
“It is absolutely a worker’s life to be honest, but there’s something so amazing about this job that I don’t know why people even consider this a job.
“It is so much fun. I think acting is more like a job but directing is a lot of fun. I hope I get more chances to do this. This seems like my first love.”
The trailer symbolises grand endure. It is so lavishing that it will give viewers a very rich feeling.
Ranaut playing Rani Laxmibai appears to be very defiant and motivational in the trailer.
Going back to history during the Indian Rebellion of 1857, Laxmibai sacrificed her life for the nation and that too at such a young age.
She was the first freedom fighter who initiated the first rebellion against the British Raj.
To portray such a role, there is no better actor than Kangana. Ranaut was the first choice of Zee Studios and Kamal Jain, the producers of the film.
Some of the words to describe Kangana in the trailer include warrior-like, gorgeous and intelligent.
In the start of the trailer, we are introduced to the very innocent Manikarnika aka Manu. But then we see her in a different light when she becomes Laxmibai.
In the third phase, we get to see her struggles, before finally seeing her in a dangerous situation against the British.
Towards the end, the trailer will get some people’s heart boiling, especially in context to the injustice of the British.
The last scene in the trailer showing the battle along with background music is very strong, creating a goosebump feeling.
Ranaut’s dialogue delivery, facial expressions and her fencing will naturally attract viewers to the film. Her character has a lot of depth and bottle as we can see on the trailer.
One cannot forget Ankita Lokhande who is absolutely perfect as Jhalkarbai. She has an emotional expression in the trailer which leaves a lasting impression.
In the trailer, we also get to see Atul Kulkarni as Tatya Tope. There is also veteran actor Danny Denzongpa who portrays the role of Ghulam Ghaus Khan.
The trailer is slightly longer as in 3 minutes 20 seconds. But it does continue to captivate the viewer.
Similar to the trailer, the movie will be long, with so much happening in the film. The characters have intensity, making it a powerful tale.
While Kangana might lose the fight in the end, she has a strong message saying:
“We both want Jhansi, the difference is you want to rule and I want to serve.”
The trailer shows how brave a woman can be in such a situation.
The trailer has received positive reactions and generated a lot of excitement on social media. Film distributor Rahul Verma went on Twitter to share his thought tweeting:

The shots of the palaces are also very good in the trailer. As long as the story is good and narrated very well the film could go big.
Overall audiences can expect a lot of variety from this film, including patriotism, colour, grand sets, costumes, some great performances and the wonderful direction of Krish.
The official teaser did not have the same impact that the trailer has had already.
The trailer of Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi certainly gives a thumbs up feeling and is superb.
Kangana Ranaut may well become the Queen of Bollywood in 2019. Zee Studios will release the film at IMAX screens globally on January 25, 2019.
