Sindhu looks to build on her momentum.
PV Sindhu carved her name deeper into badminton history on January 22 by becoming the first Indian shuttler to record 500 career wins in women’s singles.
The two-time Olympic medallist reached the historic milestone at the Indonesia Masters Super 500 tournament in Jakarta, continuing her legacy of excellence on the global stage.
PV Sindhu achieved the feat with a composed round of 16 victory over Denmark’s Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt, showcasing experience and mental strength when it mattered most.
She sealed the contest in straight games, winning 21-19, 21-18, while maintaining control during crucial rallies and dictating the pace under pressure.
The victory marked Sindhu’s fifth win in six career meetings against Kjaersfeldt, further underlining her dominance and tactical awareness against the Danish opponent.
With this triumph, Sindhu entered an exclusive global club as only the sixth women’s singles player to reach the 500 career wins milestone.
The elite list includes legendary names such as Ratchanok Intanon, Tai Tzu Ying, Akane Yamaguchi, Carolina Marin, and Bulgaria’s Petya Nedelcheva.
PV Sindhu’s overall singles record now stands at 500 wins from 732 matches, reflecting an impressive career win rate of approximately 68.3 per cent.
On the BWF Tour, the Indian star has claimed 456 victories against 227 losses, highlighting her sustained consistency across multiple Olympic cycles.
Ranked world number 13, Sindhu now faces a significantly tougher test as she advances to the quarterfinals in Jakarta.
She is set to take on the top seed and world number four Chen Yu Fei of China, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medallist.
The high-profile clash promises intensity and drama as Sindhu looks to build on her momentum and push deeper into the tournament.
In men’s singles action, India’s Lakshya Sen continued his strong run with a dominant round of 16 performance.
The seventh seed dismantled Hong Kong’s Jason Gunawan 21-10, 21-11 in just 33 minutes, barely giving his opponent room to settle.
Fresh from reaching the India Open quarterfinals as the lone Indian, Lakshya displayed confidence, sharp movement, and relentless attacking play.
He will next face Thailand’s Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul, who produced a surprise upset by defeating Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia.
Later in the day, unseeded Kidambi Srikanth faced a stern challenge against fourth seed Chou Tien Chen in a high-stakes round of 16 encounter.
The matchup was widely viewed as one of the toughest ties of the round, with Srikanth needing his best level to progress further.
