India’s PV Sindhu wins the Badminton Korea Open Super Series

PV Sindhu has won the Badminton Korea Open Super Series! She defeated Nozomi Okuhara in a thrilling match, of which many applauded her on Twitter.

Badminton player PV Sindhu has made India proud by winning the Badminton Korea Open Super Series 2017! After previously losing to Nozomi Okuhara in August 2017, she redeemed herself by defeating the Japanese sportswoman.

The final took place on 17th September. With a big crowd at Seoul’s SK Handball Stadium, the player held her nerve and delivered a thrilling performance.

With determination, PV Sindhu persevered against Okuhara and won the 1 hour and 24-minute match. She won with a valiant score of 22-20, 11-21 and 21-18.

The victory adds a shining feat to the badminton player’s career. It marks the first time she has won a Korea Open Super Series title; the first Indian woman to achieve this!

In addition, the win serves as her third Super Series title. PV Sindhu has previously won the China Open and India Open Super Series, taking place in 2016 and 2017 respectively. Remarkable accomplishments for the 22-year-old talented sportswoman!

After winning the high-energy match, she showed her gold medal with pride. This joy appeared in her Twitter posts. She thanked all her fans and supportive team of coaches, support staff and sponsors.

PV Sindhu also dedicated her win to Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, tweeting:

“I dedicate this victory for our beloved Prime Minister Shri Modiji on his birthday for his untiring and self-less services to our Country. [sic]”

Meanwhile, many famous figures from the country have applauded Sindhu for her magnificent win. Both Narendra Modi and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar congratulated the sportswoman, showing their own pride of the 22-year-old.

Even the world of Bollywood gave their own thoughts on the victory. Actors such as Amitabh Bachchan, Akhil Akkineni and Dia Murza praised the young champion, excited to see Sindhu win her first Korea Open.

With this historic win under her belt, it redeems the badminton player after previously losing to Nozomi Okuhara.

The two previously went head-to-head in the World Badminton Championships 2017. However, after a battling match, Sindhu only managed to win silver in the tournament.

Since then, her Japanese opponent took a 4-3 lead after a series of career meetings against the Indian player.

But with this latest victory, it seems PV Sindhu has now won gold again for the country.
