Social media users have been left angry after a man, who was arrested for public masturbation, was welcomed by members of the All Kerala Men’s Association.

Images and videos on social media show Savad Sha being adorned with garlands after being released on bail.

Sha was arrested on May 19, 2023, after he got on a KSRTC bus.

He sat next to Nandita Sankara and after some time, he allegedly began touching her.

When she tried to move away from him, she noticed that he was also masturbating.

A disgusted Nandita filmed and confronted Sha. Afterwards, the bus conductor asked if she wanted to file a complaint.

When she said yes, he asked the driver to take the vehicle to the police station.

Sha, who denied any wrongdoing, tried to flee but was pursued and stopped. He was later handed over to the Nedumbassery Police.

Nandita had said: “He came and sat in between me and another woman on a woman’s seat.

“He was touching me inappropriately.”

Sha has since been released on bail but disturbing footage shows him being welcomed by members of the All Kerala Men’s Association.

Members placed garlands over his neck and could be heard saying:

“Do not be upset. We are all there for you.”

Ajith Kumar, the chief of the association, claimed it was a honey trap case and said Nandita’s video was fake.

He said: “We first extended support to the woman. But later, a YouTuber informed us about this incident being fake.

“Later, we checked the video again and enquired about her background.

“Even in the video, you can see it’s smartly shot. She is alleging that he was flashing his private parts. You can’t see that anywhere in the video.”

He went on to say that the accused was on the verge of taking his own life as a result.

He added: “Initially, everyone including us was supporting the complainant.

“But later we realised that it was an evil scheme by the woman who has destroyed the life of a young man. This should not happen to any other men in Kerala.”

Mr Kumar also claimed that she posted the video for publicity.

Reacting to Sha’s release and the reception he received, Nandita said:

“I don’t understand what great act this man did, prompting a group of men to go to the jail and garland him.

“Was it that he sat on a KSRTC bus and opened his zip, exposing his genitals?

“I think this association wants to ensure that no girl should ever react to such acts.

“If a girl reacts, they will target her, attack her and make sure that she never reacts.”

“I am sure if it was any other girl, she would have hanged. I am unable to do my work. I cannot open my social media accounts due to threats and abuse.”

She also revealed that after seeing her video, at least five other women contacted her, saying they had a similar experience with Sha on a moving bus.

Sha’s release and subsequent welcome have sparked a debate on social media, with many expressing their disgust over him receiving “a hero’s welcome”.

Others stated that it sends a message that his behaviour is condoned.
