KATSEYE’s Lara on Why Representation and Culture Matter F

"We're all so different in this world."

KATSEYE made a powerful impression at the Teen Vogue Summit, where Lara and Manon shared how culture and representation remain at the heart of the group’s music and style.

The Teen Vogue Summit returned on September 20, 2025, at NYA West in Los Angeles.

The full-day experience featured today’s most influential cultural icons and change-makers.

Speaking to a live audience, Lara said:

“I also feel like our cultures play a big, big influence into how we dress.

“Like when it comes to jewellery, even clothing, like we’re all very detailed, I would say in our fashion, like down to the textures and glam and everything.”

She continued: “I love to wear my own necklace, my bindi.

“Megan wears her jade bracelet, Manon wears her waist beads, like everybody has a special individuality and thing they bring to each outfit.”

Highlighting the importance of representation, Lara added:

“Every magazine, every shoot we’ve ever done, like we make sure to keep those things with us. So, yeah, it’s very important to us.”

Manon then built on Lara’s words, saying: “I think when we grew up, we didn’t get to see that much representation, like in ads, walking on the street, on billboards.”

She continued: “And I keep saying this, but my favourite part about KATSEYE is that anyone can look at us and see herself in us.

“So, our culture is always something that we want to represent. We’re like so unapologetic about it, and that’s what’s needed. We’re all so different in this world.”

KATSEYE is a first-of-its-kind girl group comprising Daniela (Cuban/Venezuelan-American, from Atlanta), Lara (Indian, from New York), Manon (Ghanaian-Italian, from Zurich), Megan (Chinese-American, from Honolulu), Sophia (from Manila), and Yoonchae (from Seoul).

Named a group to watch in 2025 by Vevo DSCVR and Tidal, and nominated for two iHeart Radio Music Awards, KATSEYE was forged through the precision of the K-pop system but aims to break cultural and creative boundaries.

They initially captured global attention with their success in HYBE and Geffen Records’ competition The Dream Academy, later chronicled in the Netflix docuseries Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE.

They debuted in 2024 with singles such as ‘Debut’ and the dreamy, R&B-kissed ‘Touch,’ which went viral as a TikTok dance challenge.

Their debut EP SIS (Soft Is Strong) reached number one on Billboard’s Emerging Artists Chart and Heatseekers Album list.

Their second EP, Beautiful Chaos, released in June 2025 via HYBE x Geffen Records, offers a bold collection reflecting modern girlhood and the often-blurred lines between real life and the digital world.

The lead single, ‘Gnarly’, has already earned them their first entry on Billboard’s Hot 100.

KATSEYE’s cultural pride also translates into their fashion, with a recent Gap campaign earning an estimated £1.3 million in media value across Instagram and TikTok.

They have appeared at Coach’s Spring-Summer 2025 show, fronted Fendi’s centennial campaign, and collaborated with brands including Glossier, Pandora, Lush and Urban Outfitters.

With music and fashion credentials soaring, KATSEYE’s authenticity and unapologetic representation of identity ensure the group continues to resonate strongly with fans worldwide.
