"I knew I was half fruitcake when I was like 8"
Pop star Lara Raj received a wave of support from fans after coming out as bisexual.
The KATSEYE band member was on the South Korean platform Weverse when she opened up about her sexual orientation.
In her unique way, Lara explained that she believed she was bisexual from a young age.
She posted: “I knew I was half fruitcake when I was like 8, so I really was wanting everybody.
“Honestly, probably before 8.
“Isn’t ‘half fruitcake’ such a good way to explain it without saying?”
Lara Raj also reflected on her fears when auditioning for KATSEYE. Also thanking fans, she added:
“You know in Dream Academy, when it came out I was really really scared, to be honest.
“I didn’t know if people would accept me and I really thought it might ruin my chances of getting in.
“And then you all were so so nice about it and gave me so much love and support, and it made me feel so confident in who I am. So I love you for that.”
Lara Raj’s post quickly went viral and elicited support from fans and members of the LGBTQ community.
One fan said: “Lara Raj is representation in every way that she exists. we applaud her for her bravery as a young woman in a scarily critical industry.
“Forever in awe and admiration of her impact!”
Another wrote: “That is great. I feel like everyone should be able to be who they want without being judged it’s so annoying that people are afraid to come out.”
A third added: “We’re so proud of Lara and adore her so much!”
In a subsequent post, Lara stated that she has no problem with fans discussing her sexuality because many of her fans have opened up to her.
She wrote:
“I love being open because so many of you have told me.”
“It has encouraged you to be more confident and I hope I can make you guys feel seen and comfortable in your own skin.
“You can talk about it as much as you want, as long as it’s helping people that makes me really really happy.”
A rising star in the music world, Lara Raj is one of six members of the girl group KATSEYE.
Her sister Rhea is a successful solo artist.
