"Hamzah and his team are deeply disappointed"
Boxing prospect Hamzah Sheeraz has broken his silence on the comments made by Amir Khan.
The retired boxer accused Sheeraz of disrespecting him and badmouthing him behind his back.
Khan had said: “You know when you’ve got a kid who just disrespects you?
“Whatever you say, whatever you do, talks s*** about you behind your back.
Amir Khan then warned Sheeraz that he would not hesitate to settle their feud the old-fashioned way.
He said: “They never want to sit down with you and say it to your face because they know.
“I just feel sad. That’s the sad part about boxing.
“When you retire from the sport of boxing, you see the people who are with you and who are not with you, and the people then start talking s***.
“As soon as I said ‘I’m retired’ people like these Hamzah Sheeraz’s come out the woodwork and started talking s***.
“I’m like, ‘who the f*** are you? Bro, I’m still a man. I’m not retired from everything in life, I will stick it on you if I have to.”
Hamzah Sheeraz has now responded to Khan’s comments.
Hamzah Sheeraz and his team said in an official statement:
“Hamzah and his team are deeply disappointed by the inaccurate and disingenuous remarks made by Mr Amir Khan whilst delivering interviews to certain media channels.
“The content of Mr Khan’s comments remains unsubstantiated, baseless and without merit and have no connection to Hamzah Sheeraz.
“It was a deliberate attempt to overshadow Hamzah’s world-class preparation and performance on the night.
“It appears as though Hamzah is being caught in the cross-fire between Mr Tahir Mahmood Khan (“Taz” or “Taz Khan”) and Mr Amir Khan.
“This is a personal and private matter, which has no connection to Hamzah Sheeraz.”
“Taz is a highly valued, deeply respected and proficient member of Team Sheeraz. This team has widespread and far-reaching competencies and skills to help steer and guide Hamzah Sheeraz’s career.
“Contrary to remarks made by Mr Amir Khan, Taz is a Camp Co-ordinator and is adept at helping Hamzah prepare for his fights. Any other reports are unsubstantiated.
“Ordinarily, Hamzah and his team would have responded earlier. However, after a demanding and gruelling 12-week camp followed by an emphatic victory against a highly regarded and worthy opponent, Hamzah rightly prioritised his mental and physical well-being by spending valuable time celebrating with his family, friends and his pets.
“Team Sheeraz respects what Mr Amir Khan has achieved in his career and wish him well in his retirement.
“Hamzah prays that any misunderstanding between Mr Amir Khan and Taz can be resolved privately and amicably between the elders in the family.
“In closing, Team Sheeraz will continue to work tirelessly in our pursuit of world championship and beyond.
“Speaking the truth, unity and working studiously and diligently are values deeply embedded in Hamzah and is the core to what he stands for.
“Hamzah and his team would like to thank all his fans and well-wishers who continue to support Hamzah and energise him with the fuel to achieve greater heights.
“To every fan and well-wisher, we thank you sincerely.”
