"This dude moved to Canada at the age of FORTY THREE"
Chandra Arya, an Indian-origin Canadian MP, has officially joined the race to become Canada’s next Prime Minister.
On January 9, 2025, he released a video on X to announce his entry into the race.
In his caption, he spoke about significant issues affecting Canada and his plans to improve them.
He said: “I am running to be the next Prime Minister of Canada.
“I will lead a small, more efficient government to rebuild our nation and secure prosperity for future generations.
“We are facing significant structural problems that haven’t been seen for generations and solving them will require tough choices.
“We have a perfect storm; Many Canadians, especially younger generations, face significant affordability issues.
“Working middle class is struggling today, and many working families are retiring directly into poverty.
“Canada deserves leadership that isn’t afraid to make the big decisions.”
Despite entering the Canadian PM race, Arya’s post was met with ridicule as many criticised his foreign-born status and accent.
One X user said: “Foreign-born individuals should not hold elected office in any level of government, regardless of their origin country.
“From Ireland to India, from Syria to Sweden, it doesn’t matter.
“Absolutely no exceptions. The record speaks for itself.”
Another said: “You should be running to be Prime Minister of India.”
One mocked his language skills, saying:
“This dude moved to Canada at the age of FORTY THREE, speaks broken English, with a thick Indian accent.
“Yet he is somehow an MP running to be the Prime Minister.
“Imagine I moved to Mumbai, took an introductory course in Gujarati, then ran to replace Modi?”
One racist comment read: “Will your first act as PM be to deport yourself?”

In an interview, Chandra Arya was asked “how’s your French? to which he simply replied “No.”
Many Canadians were outraged by this, with one saying:
“While bilingualism is a requirement to be Prime Minister, Chandra just demonstrated that he can’t speak either English or French.”
Another sarcastically commented:
“How’s your French?”
Arya has been affiliated with the Liberal Party since 2015. He is a representative of Nepean in the House of Commons and has been re-elected three times.
Born in Karnataka, he gained attention in 2022 after speaking his native tongue Kannada in the Canadian Parliament.
This was the first time Kannada had been spoken in any parliament in the world outside of India.
Arya has also urged for more political participation from Hindu Canadians and has argued that the community is underrepresented in Canada’s political landscape.
Several candidates have entered the PM race after Justin Trudeau announced his resignation.
The new leader of the Liberal Party will be declared on March 9.
