America Mappillai is the first-ever Tamil web series to have launched on ZEE5.
India’s largest digital entertainment platform ZEE5 has announced the launch of an eight-part web series America Mappillai.
Each episode is approximately ten minutes long in length where Indian subscribers can exclusively binge watch all episodes on the ZEE5 platform.
Trendloud is producing the show where it focuses on off-beat stories alongside Raja Ramamurthy (Writer) and Praveen Padmanabhan (Director).
America Mappillai, which is a ZEE5 Originals series breaks stereotypes that are usually seen in mainstream Indian cinema.
Raja Krishnamoorthy (Kitty), OK Kanmani’s Leela Samson and Chennai2Singapore’s Gokul Anand are part of the star-studded cast.
Arjun Chidambaram is the main focus of the show as Ganesh as he comes back from his holiday in America back home to India.
Ganesh provides new ideas and concepts after his holiday, leaving his family confused and at odds with his weird behaviour.
His father believes that marriage to a suitable girl is the best solution to sorting out his son’s post-holiday antics.
The series focuses on Ganesh’s attempts to combat marriage and use his quirky tactics to avoid coming out by claiming to be gay.
As the series goes on, the family is reeling at Ganesh’s revelations as the show throws another twist to the mix in the later episodes.
One of the quirkier aspects of America Mappillai is that every episode is named after a colour, which adds justice to the emotive attachments of that colour.
Archana Armand, Head of Digital at ZEE5 Business spoke about the series foray into reaching Tamil audiences.
Archana said: “America Mappillai is our maiden foray into the Tamil landscape and we have aimed to break the stereotypes with this show.
“We are confident that it will be a huge success. We believe that the edgy story that America Mappillai tells through the lens of a typical Tamilian household will resonate with a wide audience. We’re extremely excited to have this show on our platform as a ZEE5 Original.”
Chidambaram Natesan, CEO of Trendloud spoke about how the show is breaking through new storytelling formats for young Tamil audiences.
Chidambaram added: “The Tamil youth is now open to bold new formats of storytelling. This is a situation that almost every middle-class household in the state has witnessed, and presenting it in this hilarious fashion gives it a perspective.
“We are confident that the series will strike a chord in the minds of our audience.”
