The Queen of Cannes, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has returned.
Making a spectacular first-day red carpet appearance for the 71st Cannes Film Festival on 12th May 2018, Ash was certainly a head-turner in an exotic butterfly-inspired dress designed by Dubai-based Michael Cinco.
We’re used to seeing Bachchan take big risks over her many years at Cannes, and fans were certainly left mesmerised by her stunning multi-coloured panelled gown with a 10-foot long structured cape.
Inspired by the intricate beauty of nature for this year’s jaw-dropping outfit, Ash’s dress is made up of ultra-violet, black, magenta, midnight blue and earthy green tones.
According to Harper’s Bazaar, the dress took 3,000 hours to make.
It is certainly a step away from Ash’s fairytale look from 2017.
It’s almost impossible to take your eyes away from the enchanting creation, which features intricate silk thread work and glittering Swarovski crystals.
Of course, with so much drama, Ash kept her accessorising to a minimum. She wore her red-tinted hair sleek and straight and added pink diamond drop earrings to complete the look.
The L’Oreal Paris brand ambassador was made up with a sensual Infallible Pro Matte Liquid lipstick 308 Shanghai Scarlet.
Her eyes were dark and dramatic, with a perfect winged eyeliner thanks to L’Oreal’s Le Stylo Smoky Shadow 102 Delicat Wood, Infallible 24H Gel crayon I’ve Got The Blue and lots of mascara.
Her daughter Aaradhya also walked with her mother as she made her way towards the red carpet in an equally adorable red ruffled dress.
The cute 6-year-old has been joining her famous mother almost every year that she has touched down on the French Riviera.
But this is one of the first times that the adorable girl has dressed up alongside her stunning mother for her various photocalls.
Snaps of the mother-daughter duo first made the rounds on social media the day before, when they arrived in Cannes.
Aaradhya wore an elegant black summer dress embroidered with balloons, while Ash wore an all-black ensemble.
For her first full day at Cannes, Aishwarya did media calls dazzling in an embroidered off-the-shoulder mosaic-print dress of light blue and pink and silver platforms.
The custom dress was by Manish Arora and Ash accessorised with jewels by Noor Fares.
With Ash’s choice of stunning detail and fun use of colour throughout the day, it seems no surprise that her potentially risque red-carpet look has paid off.
The stunning diva exudes confidence and elegance as she walks through the swarms of photographers alongside her industry peers.
Joining her for photos were Hollywood great Helen Mirren who wore an elegant velvet dress in navy blue.
Lebanese presenter and model Daniella Rahme and Jordanian presenter and lawyer, Ola Al-Fares also joined Ash for photos, both wearing glittering gold creations.
Her 17th year at Cannes is particularly special for the Bollywood star.
Not only does it mark her 15 years as a brand ambassador for L’Oreal Paris, but her official debut to social media.
Joining the likes of Katrina Kaif and others, Ash finally opened her Instagram page with a mosaic of Aaradhya as a baby. She used the caption: “And I was born… again…”
The adorable images have made fans ecstatic at her online presence. Especially as it means they will be able to get a closer glimpse of their favourite, if not largely private, Bollywood star.
She has since been posting all the behind the scenes action taking place at Cannes. Including this lovely video of her twirling Aaradhya.
We can’t wait to see more from Aishwarya Rai Bachchan over the next two days during her Cannes trip. She follows on from Deepika Padukone who graced the red carpet in a white sheer lace gown and a fairy pink ruffle masterpiece.
Ash will also be walking the red carpet on Sunday 13th May.
Soon after, her L’Oreal co-ambassador, and the newly married Sonam Kapoor Ahuja will be making her red carpet appearances on 14th and 15th May.
